  5. A week to the day after receiving the awful news I decided to pay my own little tribute to my old buttie John - or 'gobby' as he was affectionately known to us by taking a walk out with the lurchers to the forestry and moors above our little village where we spent most of our childhood. In no time time at all those long forgotten memories came flooding back to me, like the time we miraculously found in pound note as we were literally in the middle of nowhere - we invested that wisely in pop and crisps when we got back home ?. Also, the time we saw a couple shagging in the forestry and crept up

  10. Managed to bag this vixen tonight at last. It’s been a long job. Had her mate three weeks ago, her nippers last week, (only two) and missed her on the same night. Spotted her lying down on the hillside as I drove up to my parking area and she legged it on seeing me. After waiting out elsewhere thinking she’d head there, on near dark I went back to where I’d seen her earlier and there she was, mousing. Sticks up and down she went with the Hornet. Got another litter nearer the farm to deal with next week ??

We lost someone very close some years back and me and his son carried a bench miles to a spot we both liked.....me and the lad sometimes go and sit there its almost like we're all back together again....bit morbid but comforting in a strange kind of way.

I have this fantasy where I'm giving priti Patel one and we have a whole line of African servants that we have rescued from a dingy, we dress them up in funny gold suits and they serve us glasses of prosseco and pigs in blankets. 17. Well, made the long drive home yesterday. Me and John were very close mates for a lot of years, sadly when I moved away we drifted further apart, but sadly that’s life. I’ve got so many good memories of the times we spent together, some I’ll share here at some point. But we spent a hell of a lot of time stomping hills and fields together and occasionally even stranger places like Alton towers! His kids were a big part of my life for a lot of years. I went to see Wales 1234 and the two of us went to see John’s Mrs and kids. They were pleased to see us, and as heart breaking as it was, it always

  21. In recent polls, around 80% of the public said aid should be cut. Boris wants to cut aid from 0.7 of GDP to 0.5, about four billion pounds. At least 30 Tory MP's are going to join Labour and vote against any cut, in fact Labour actually want to INCREASE overseas aid ! Any MP who votes against the cuts should have 25% of their salaries deducted and given to British charities !!!! See which way they vote then ! Cheers.

I think when you get older you start to appreciate your hunting fishing etc more and personally I don’t clash myself as I used to years back, I like to make all my own gear for all sorts of hobbies as I have always done, numbers arnt the big thing for me now, firstly the rabbits and fish are not here in the numbers no more, I take everything at a much slower pace nowadays, I had a heart attack 8 yrs ago yesterday and also get angina, I like to do my hobbies myself mainly, I can go when I want and come home when I want, nothing like being out with a ferret and my collie netting a few rabbits or

Then mac got a crow from a hedge next to it. Went for a little walk and i saw some woodpigeons in a field about 100 yards away. On arrival at my ground I spotted a doe in the buttercup meadow and watched her for a while, no kids in tow. I then headed to the bottom of the ground in search of the old buck I've seen a few times but nothing about apart from a foxy deposit ? Heading back to the buttercup meadow I spotted the doe and watched her for around 20 minutes or so as I needed her to move off so could set up on the side of the copse. When she moved to the corner of the field I was able to slip around her unnoticed, just as I was i

  31. I meant to say above, the main thing that the kids asked when we saw them, is could anyone who has any photos and especially videos with John in them, could they please forward them to me or Wales1234 (drop one of us a pm for a number), so that we can pass them on. The idea of forgetting things like the sound of their dads voice is a hard one, but there must be a few videos out there of John at the fishing competition etc which would be lovely for them to have.

  32. I accidentally became a mole trapper 9 years ago after moving to France. The farmer that we rented a cottage off knew I was into fishing and shooting so asked me if I'd give it a go. He bought me 6 traps that turned out to be worse than useless. After struggling for a couple of weeks I phoned my old mate who had showed me how to go on when we used to drop in on his mole jobs while out shooting and fishing. Keith sent me all his old traps and it went from there. I put six of his traps in and caught five moles by the following morning. The farm is 300 hectares of very mixed soil types and I

So I needed to makesure she was going to be a decent rearer before I put any goldfinch eggs under. I've two Mexican hens bringing four chicks up each. They laid four an reared four so not bad going to say there's no cock birds in with them.

Well to day thought I might go back to shooting pellets in 22 18 gr , as I have a difficult permission for slugs , .22 H&N 21gr slugs alway pass through so went down to my range , but out side , so I could try these 18 gr out to 100 yards . Without altering any settings it’s bang on at 45 yards same as slugs . Went out to 100 yards and even in the wind , a very tight group about 20 mm . who said pellet can’t be shot at high speed are completely wrong , these 18 gr are close on 1000 FPS ,998fps From now

  38. That sounds a great way of life fellah? I'me a retired old guy, but I still do four months on the Wasps during the Summer,.. then I trap the moles in the Springtime. I still like to travel around the country in the late Autumn /Winter time, meeting interesting folk and playing around just hunting up a few rabbits..I never take many, just enough for some sport for the dogs. Locally, here in the South, we do not have the shushis in large numbers anymore, so unless I get asked to clear a particular place (for cash)..I pretty much leave them alone. I've killed more than enough...?

  41. If nobody is willing to give him a reference and if he’s got a police record of recent irresponsible or violent behaviour then he won’t ( or shouldn’t) be granted a certificate. No need to contact them. We all have our own moral code , and I for one wouldn’t be able to look the guy in the eye again if I’d been on the phone and bubbled him to the FEO . Remember he is a friend , ok a bit of a prick but still a friend . The police are very good at keeping records, ask anyone who has a DBS , they can Chuck up 30 year old driving convictions.

  46. Just being devils advocate here . People grow up , and people change as they get older and think of consequences. For my part I got into some violent scrapes when I was younger. This is before CCTV in town centres . So I never got a police record. When I got my shotgun certificate I fell in love with shooting. I wouldn’t do anything to jeopardise my shooting. “Have one more pint for the road “? No chance . Any form of physical confrontations , have to be , you are backed in a corner with no other option . I honestly believe that my shooting made me responsible , and behave myself
