  5. Thanks y'all Hope not to bore. We received 5 inches of snow last night. So we headed back to the swamps this morning. The snow left an interesting story. As soon as I released the terrier he got a small possum really shallow lol. We pushed on through the swamp to a local latrine. There was fresh sign everywhere. I looked across the creek and saw something that made me smile. The terrier entered and mixed it up for a few minutes.20 yards away a large otter bolted. He ran through a briar thicket and onto a frozen mud flat.Suddenly he vanished.Th

  8. Thanks for your concern. I’m still in the land of the living. I have been back on the trowel for the last few weeks and have been working with a gang , so I’ve not had my usual THL time moments that I get while I’m keepering . And also I work on the shoot on my own , so you guys are sort of company. I’ve said this before, I’m like a bad friend who you don’t hear of for ages and then comes back expecting to pick up like nothing has happened. Also I clumsily dropped my iPhone in a puddle and f@cked it up . I’ve been waiting on my insurance replacement , and sort of got out of the THL

  13. Just gotta chop em up out the ice lol A buddy of mine who lives in the national forest about 30min away posted these. This is by one of the major rivers and they come inland a little to these smaller bodies if water. Anyhow when it does ice over ( don't happen too often down here ) they stick there noses out the water leak so and allow the ice to form around them, basically they just turn them selves into snorkels and ho into a suspended hibernation. Not sure how long they can stay like this but I've heared a week or two isn't in common. Also this is one if the main reasons he sa

  15. All the whippets I've owned, and the ones I didn't own, would enter the thickest of cover/brambles without a second thought. All this 'fragile, no guts, shit feet, no drive' etc etc is a load of shite, spouted mainly by people that have never even seen a whippet work, let alone own one. ? Oh yeah, they also have a very good nose.

  19. Im glad you said that. I couldnt agree more. Ive always paid the price even if I couldnt afford it. why is the money always the most talked about aspect of getting good stock. The biggest concern should be getting good pups that have good tight breeding behind them. That is very very hard to do, and if you do manage it and you are a dog man you wont start jibbing over money.

  20. He sadly died at seven mat, but i had to retire him about five and he lived out his days lying on the sofa with my nan and running around my folks place getting in trouble. Never really got to the bottom of it, but he had a very full working life up till retirement, had a lot of smashes and was put back together a lot. When I moved to the land of the big fields and the hare, it just wasn't fair on him. As fun as it was running them with him, he wasn't right by then, and there were so many he'd just run himself into the ground everytime we left the house. So he went home to hunt the rabbits, ra

  21. A friend took a few pictures of my last two outings. It was good to have some company for a change. Had one to bolt and seek refuge in this log pile. Yesterday we had an ice storm in Dixie.Temps at daylight were 8 ° or -13 Celsius. We don't get much weather this cold so we took advantage. Our effort was rewarded.

  24. So much for deregulation you mean. They had a similar event in 2011 and talked then about winterizing their equipment. There was no profit incentive or regulation to require it. Now it's happened again and everyone is pointing fingers. So now socks, you have a few fact based and historically accurate talking points. She discovered tik-tok and has not been heard from since.

  26. My attempts to keep on top of the rats has been hampered recently by somebody nicking fenn traps. So a bit of a Friday afternoon project for me was to cut off the chain loop connectors and mig some 8mm wire rope on instead. I’ve made loops on the other end for fixing to trees, posts etc. I don’t think they’ll be snipping these off so easy, but we’ll see?

  28. Had pretty much all of the terrier and lurcher books written up untill about 10years back along with every edrd going back to the first one but flogged or gave away pretty much all of them after meeting or spending days out with a fair few authors/article writers and realising most of them are full of complete shit.

  34. I had a pure whippet, got him early 2010. That dog was a little machine, he had prey drive and heart to spare, lot of wind, speed, anything you could ask for. He was a wee bit independently minded lol, and could hunt like a hound. He would fly into absolutely anything, of any size, up to and including a big fallow buck (which he obviously couldn't stop). If I could have him again now, I would snap your hand off, but i dont know if id get another like him, so I've never had another one. Few members on here saw him run, and a I believe a few may have pups out of him still. RIP Finn.
