  1. My point is that running dogs on badgers is bad for dogs , and ultimately bad for the image of running dogs . But we don’t need to worry about it do we , because it’s banned anyway. I’m someone who has been involved with dogs a long time and I find it , if I’m honest , barbaric . I’ve got no problem killing thing’s. I do it daily. But I think I am humane . I use the right tools for the job . If you think it’s fine , crack on , you’ve got your moral compass, I’ve got mine . I apologise if I’ve come across as judgemental , I also realise that it might be a case of th

  2. This is only my opinion, but a badger is not a running dogs quarry... a dog does not need to have running dog attributes to catch and dispatch a badger... I have no care for what other people hunt or do, but we all know the type of dog required for that type of work...and it ain't a dog meant for running down game... I personally love watching a dog run, I.like the whole getting to grips with an animal which can be its equal when running... once that animal is caught it needs to be dispatched quickly.... if that animal is too good and escapes, then all credit to it and that is what

  3. I agree with JDhunting about the upside down justice system that gives more punishment for this than peados or burglary. But there is an underlying sentiment on this thread that the only crime they committed was getting caught. I’ve been involved with terriers and running dogs my whole life , I was one of the first in my area to have bull crosses back in the mid 80s .So I know a bit about it . There is cruelty involved with running dogs and badgers. You can’t eat a badger and it’s a powerful animal that takes some killing . A pig is not going to outrun your dog s

  4. Jmho, and as we have been harping on about in the other thread, blood matters and you don’t get decent blood unless lads throw stuff at dogs. Its alright have your nice sensible, steady old thing but keep breeding that to other nice sensible, steady old things and pretty soon there’s f**k all dog left imho......now some folks may not like what other lads do or even their methods but you need them because without them there wouldn’t be a dog left in the world worth feeding. We would all be down the pet shop buying them dog Elvis outfits and parading them round the park ! Lon

  6. We lurcher lads can be a hypocritical, judgmental lot, can't we ? LOL ! Ive allways had dogs for sport and enjoyment, with the added bonus of putting some very nice food in the freezer. Ive never had any time for badgers; you can't eat them, they can't run very fast, they tear up your dogs and lead to big vet bills, and in the case of these lads, result in some very serious, and, in my mind, over the top punishment. BUT, what others do for THEIR sport, is THEIR business, not mine ! As for "bringing our sport into disrepute ", give me a break, I've been in the sport well ove

  7. Yesterday ,after doing a few chores l set out with a dozen nets ,a ferret and the dog. I had no thoughts or even a chance of a big bag but lt's October ; the time of year when a Gentleman's thoughts turn to rabbits. I could say that the dog tracked along the hedgerow and eventually gave a mark under a bramble patch but l won't. That would be a hackneyed old clichè! Anyway we found some holes ,one of which interested the dog immensely. Stealthily l set the nets, taking care not to alarm the inhabitants of the bury. No, that is not only another ferreting clichè, it's a lie.

  8. with the conditions being near enough perfect tonight except for the fact it was like daylight because of the big old moon hiding behind the cloud i decided to try me luck with the lamp. Got to my spot I had in mind only to find a lead and fresh dog shit at the first gateway and no rabbits in the field I decided to go somewhere else. My new destination i know holds a few rabbits but they are not the easiest to catch on the best of nights, so I just walked the boundaries and mopped a few up. Done a little better than I expected and finished on 23 with a mix of between no retrieve and

  10. Daft or not it's more than some nonces get more than practically every house burglar could ever imagine getting, more than what you'd get for jumping someone and stamping them half to death, more than what you'd get for most crimes for basically doing something humans are programmed to do. Sick of this country and its upside down "justice" system.

  11. Just a wild throw at stuff . I don’t know if any of you follow gallelio closely. But it’s the death knell of Dog based field sports imho. lincs is quite easily the worst place for coursing , always has been and it seem they have their shit together . They have quietly grown this brand of policing it with forces using anpr cameras , patrols , drones , helis , quads and a massive drive in the local community , going to schools , having the lacs , the wildlife trusts , the nfu, neighbourhood watch etc all working in the same page . Look how the fen lads are portrayed in the media now

  12. Wilf , it’s not genetic engineering , they import a pit bull from Eastern Europe, it does the rounds , they sling it over greyhounds or any other bitch in season , they are not working dog Messiahs . Most of the pups will do the business to one level or another. The trick is to get a dog that can work with other dogs , most are a bloody liability the owners family, to other dogs and livestock . Why we actually need dogs like this is a good question, but hey , each of us to their own sport .

  13. A badger isn't a running dogs job it's a terriers and just like it's not a lurchers job to sort end of a dig out that part comes down to you the amount of damage footage showing the above as done will make sure that terrier work as we once knew it will never return

  14. There has always been that “thing” with the young dog lads . Parading dogs at shows with half a jaw . Putting dogs in situations where they wouldn’t put themselves. Who’s dogs the hardest. It’s nonsense. They are nonsense.

  15. What ever your chosen sport it needs to be humane for dog and quarry and like sl when I was an 18 year old lad I had a different outlook but even then the dogs welfare was all ways put first because they were my pride and joy. Plenty of other ways to control badgers if it was ever allowed not that it will ever happen. But there numbers are now getting to nuisance levels around here so eventually some thing will happen

I’m looking at the birds and they are well tailed up and they have lost their juvenile feathers on there heads . Got to get pegs put out soon . Already got the drives planned . Someone asked me if I was nervous ? I said “ask me in December “.

  18. It's been interesting reading the amount of interest in American politics on THL especially considering that only 5, or so, contributors could actually vote on it but I get what you're saying, and agree to a point. The Atlantic lens which either side are viewing each other has put some entertaining perspectives on some serious issues. We're just trying to figure out how to get the guns over to you so you can do Brexit properly!

  20. So basically we need to get jank bred things that would spew after three teeth in a night or get ran over by anything larger than a roe deer ? or get a tracking collar and walk mountainS for Moody filtered photos ? and people wonder why it’s hard to get a good lurcher these days ??

  23. I've always believed that the matching of dogs is more humane than hunting certain quarry with teeth. At least the former has two willing combatants of equal size. Now I know some will think I'm sadistic thinking like that but to me I'm speaking perfect sense.

  24. Well, it’s an interesting conversation lads. As I said in the other thread I had a dog I liked and I knew what he was.......but most importantly I also knew what he wasn’t and I never once said “well, you don’t need those things anyway so he is a proper thing” He was a dog with limits ! ........and I didn’t decry other lads who’s dogs never had those limits to make my dog out to be something he wasn’t. C.Green summed it up perfectly the other night when he wrote “I start wondering about the dog if it takes stuff into the next field.......” People with that attitude will be

  25. If you want to put your runner on brock, by all means fill your boots. For me imo it's not hunting, it's more akin to fighting. If a dog fights a boar instead of holding or baying, it's gonna be a dead dog sooner rather than later. I'm sure you know exactly what I mean and you're just being pedantic ?

Lets face it.Its been illegal for the best part of 40years now and will remain so so going on about it on here is pointless and doing what they did is just plain f***ing stupid.Any lads that want to keep busy and fly under the radar wont be filming shit to stroke their pathetic egos and wont feel the need to discuss the right and wrongs of it on here either

  28. I've only owned one dog in 30 years that I was 100% sure had no quit in him, just keep throwing work at him and his tail would be up over his back wagging away he fcukin lived for it and was good at it, some dogs you ask yourself maybe I'm pushing it a bit to far but with that dog it never crossed my mind. Some dogs just have that something special about them and are definitely a rarity.

  35. And this is where a lack of understanding from people creeps in I think mate, it’s still not about a fight, it’s about what it’s always been about and that is a dog being able to terminate whatever it gets pointed at as quickly and efficiently as possible and if it can do that to the biggest, meanest things that can be found then it can do it to anything and that’s the dog you want to sire your litters. Jmho uneducated opinion of course ?

  36. But since when was hunting fair ? Coming from a bulldog background it took me a long while to really understand the difference between a fair fight and a hunt....i finally got my head around it when i realised hunting cannot be " fair " by its very nature.

  38. Funny thing I can remember saying to people when the badger protection laws came in , give it 30 years and we will be over run with them, they will become a problem, recon I can say I told you so now,?? used to love a good dig with good dogs and good lads, often have the farmer out with the backo moving earth, and it wasn’t about cruelty and baiting, the best digging dog I ever owned very rarely got bit or even engaged, she would just bay all day until you broke through and finished things off died at 9 with barely a mark on her, think if there was a bounty on them tomorrow I’d be more incline
