9 hour round trip, collected my dog pup today. The fella is a gentleman, pot of tea and sandwiches waiting! Spent a good 2 hours talking! Cheers mate!

The hay fields were cut Friday night but I couldn't get up there till last night. Walked the first on and nothing about so went on to the second one. Started with the hand call and within 5 minutes this little vixen came flying in. Dropped her at about 70 paces. Called for a bit more but nothing showed, so I went back to the car for a brew. As it got dark I went for another look and dropped the dog fox in about the same position as the vixen was. So all in all a good night

Received a call Friday from a farmer saying hundreds of pigeons and crows on the wheat. I thought I would have a look to do some recce for Saturday, there was hundreds but right in the middle of the field on a flat patch. I was set up for 4.30 am with my hide in the middle of the field just off the flat patch. First bird was shot at 5am and last bird shot at 5pm - a 12 hour shift. I was absolutely knackered but well worth it as I shot my PB 229 birds - 175 woodies & 54 jackdaws for 295 shots. Excuse carp pic as couldnt pick all birds and after a 12 hour session wasnt going to display them

Well I was up at 0300 and in the field by 0400. Got myself set up with a nice little vantage point and baited the area with cat food. In typical horse fashion the horses decide they want to have a nosy and hang around the baite area? In the end they decide to move off but I'm sure they ate the food? Times passing by and 0530 comes and goes but no sign of the ginger. 0600 comes and guess what I spot in the other fecking field, yep you've guessed it the ginger. This field is used by a model airplane club and I don't have permission to shoot on it. T

I’ve had S and B scopes on all my centerfires for years now . And I haven’t regretted it . The light gathering quality is superb on my 8x56 Hungarian . However it sort of matters less now as I tend to swap rifles to night vision as soon as I struggle to see . My Leica bins are more or less redundant as I get the thermal out as well .

If you want to rough shoot then you want a bushing dog more than a running dog. If you want it to catch outside of cover then something with a bit of whippet might be needed. I bush to 2 Lurchers with a single busher (Spaniel x terrier). We catch a few rabbits. If I was to shoot using just the busher we would have a decent bag most outings. I also bush with a couple of my mates beddy whippets and if I was looking to just own a single dog for what you want then this is definitely the way I would go. Got to get the right one though as not all beddy whippets will go into cover. Another option wo

I have an old Deben MK1 finder that I got quite cheap at a boot sale of all places. I don't use the finder that much only on the bigger warrens in hedge lines really. If one ferret stays down a while I'll collar up the other one and send it in to find the other. I would say it's a good idea to have one, as said 150 for a hobby is nothing really. I spend that on pellets per year... FF
