First silage cut was day before yesterday so been out the last couple of nights having a look. I saw a fox mousing in the fresh cut grass the first night but couldn't get a shot. Tonight though the same vixen popped out the hedge 100 yards in front of me and a 50g .223 dropped her on the spot.9 points

Said it before, poaching finished when meat in shops was cheaper than buying it from the local mooches and fur coats became the latest outrage there is still and always will be a way for a man to feed his family from the land and it don’t involve driving through gates, I think all these lads do a great job of keeping the police and local busy body’s occupied while proper folk are just getting on with there business as they always have, its about living in the shadows not bragging rights ?5 points

Trevor never did anything on the coursing field to be fair his offspring were hit and miss the F1s Lou bred were no good when it came to the real hares on the black land ? But the lurchers he was bred too hot the high notes especially with the lads doing the deer ? Have witnessed small bitches bred from Trevor that ran fifteen minutes plus on Sherwood forest fallow small bitches with the biggest hearts.. The Mansfield Woodhouse lads kept a strain from him double bred Trevor and for the job I haven't seen many better but they were into earning money not running hare on a gambling4 points

Most farmers don’t really care about the stuff getting caught. I’m too busy and too tired to go worrying about someone lamping a hare or whatever. But round here it goes hand in hand with thieving and general hassle. Even this time of year we have folk out, in growing crops, with a vehicle and multiple dogs, running hares, driving through fences and stealing stuff. Battery’s and energisers off electric fences are a favourite. On the upside they do dump random things. Recently we had a load of fishing gear and also a drum kit.4 points

Study after study shows that children are both at so little risk that they are almost immune to the virus and also that in very comprehensive studies of where people caught the virus almost know one has caught the virus from children even if children that had tested positive where in a household adults still didn’t catch it from them. We simply can’t hide for ever, children need to be in school again. There is significantly more risk to children’s future being locked away indoors than there is by going to school. The idea of not opening schools until it’s 100 percent safe is a fantasy and one3 points

Why do police forces always mount poaching operations out of season? They had one near me on hare coursing in June once, quite frankly I am happy to have a rural crime team who doesn't know the hunting seasons ??? With the alleged shortage of police funding how do they justify 66 new vehicles and man hours spent parked up in the woods? What with council amenities, rubbish tips, schools closed etc at the moment I reckon the council tax payers of Gloucestershire are getting a bad deal for their money at the moment.3 points

I think you mean It's the idiots that are f***ing the game up mate. I always thought a good poacher leaves little or no trace that they have been there.3 points

^^^^ This really^^^^ I listened to and fell for the hype of the hmr and soon found it disappointing to say .the least. I replaced it with a .17 Hornet and i believe that particular calibre is the rifle everyone thought the hmr was going to be and wasn't. I have now parted with the Hornet due to it being awkward to load for and bought another .204 instead. I have a requirement for something in between .22 rimfire and .204 but just haven't decided how best to fill it yet. I may go another .22 Hornet.2 points

Well we are down to 3 chicks now she lost 2 more on those frosty nights. The ones that are left seem strong and have most of their feathers. Think they might fledge at the end of the week. Cheers Arry2 points

Let’s not pretend there is some ethical code for lurcher work mate please. A lot of the reality’s are some very good dogs are tested and made by land driving lads lamping you can thank the law for the ditching of hares etc as your carting the evidence against you around in the back of your motor . As for Facebook etc , I don’t partake in that , but I can see why lads do. I think it’s facetious to talk down to lads out on the hoof putting gear to bed as I can’t be dealing with it. I was young once and daft , and I did things I’m not proud of with the dogs to get a few ki2 points

Further testing today with the wmr in the wind tonight confirmed a couple of things for me. Shooting a rimfire in good wind up to 200yds is folly. That's the first point. The second is that my right eye is pants, infact, both are no where near what they were a decade ago. So spotting rabbits unless perfectly lit up is getting difficult for me. So there is no point me getting a mouse rifle, I won't see them and when I squint through the glass with my right eye everything goes darker anyway! The longest shot today was a woodie at about 140yd. The rabbits were 10yd to 80yd or2 points

Got a bit bored today . I have been thinking of getting something to hold the rifles steady when I clean them , but I have always just held them and managed without. But with night vision on the rifle and battery’s to change I needed something. I had a root around them shed and found some bits of plywood and set about making a stand . As you can see I’m no carpenter but I’m happy enough with the results and it didn’t take long ( I know it looks like it too ) . It’s 500mm L 220w the front is 340 H and the back 290 the V notches are 110 in depth but the front is about 50mm h2 points
