  2. the way I see it the majority are true dog men who know the score and behave. the other are just common crooks who have dogs.

  3. Had a mooch out this avo. Heard a bit of a commotion....... local beagle pack had lost ten couple hounds. No one to be seen and they were hunting like stink so I went with them for a good while and had a bit of hunting before finally getting hold of the huntsman.

  4. Put my tawny and kestrel boxes up last month, nothing yet but still early... Had plenty tawny activity on trailcams feeding on roadkill rabbits and pheasants I’ve put out trying to attract buzzards... Will be putting some boxes up soon for woodland birds, I’ll keep the holes plugged up on a few until the redstarts and flycatchers make an appearance and hopefully get them nesting in boxes.

As someone who runs dogs I understand you saying you wouldn’t shoot dogs but if it was costing me and my family my lively hood I’d shoot all the hares and rabbits and deer on any land I keep livestock if it’s atracting them sort of people or I’d shoot there dogs , and befor everyone starts with the your a scum bag saying you’d shoot someone’s dogs blah blah your a scum bag if your going out ruining someone’s lively hood taking food of that mans kids table, ,, nothing wrong with sneeking on taking some for pot and off again but when people ramming fences and nicking fences and batteries to wei

  7. I might be wrong but this is how I understand it... ....they arnt banning wood, log burners or fires.. They are banning coal, which is mainly imported from China and Russia anyway. You can still burn smokeless, which isn't that much more expensive and it gives out more heat. On a 20kg I pay a quid more for smokeless. This is cleaner, gives out more heat and is safer in wood/solid fuel burners. To sell wood it will need to be kiln dried or assured to be under a certain moisturiser content. This wood will again give out more heat and prolong the life of your liner /woodburner.

  11. I used to be a chimney sweep (now finished thank feck). Most people never read the manufacturer's instructions as to what temperature to burn at and consequently either have the thing slowly smoldering 'to keep the fire in' producing a load of creosote and soot and filling the street with smoke, or too hot on coal wrecking the appliance and starting chimney fires I've looked at a few wood drying kilns and wasn't very convinced by them. Customers that had bought kiln 'dried' wood said it wasn't at all dry and not worth the money. Most modern homes are well insulated and draught proof and I rec

  12. Just to add - on the occasions we find lads doing it the ok way, we just smile, wave and drive on. Or have a quick chat and tell them where they can go and not go if they want no hassle. They always look confused as f**k, when the farmer rocks up in his truck and starts asking about their dogs and how they bred haha.

  14. After getting a phone call from the sheep farm informing me that a fox had been spotted in with the lambs I told him I’d be up tonight, now the wind is strong but we can deal with that, so I picked up longshanx and headed to the farm, on arrival we noticed that the wind had got stronger and it had started to rain, by the time we got to the top field the rain was heavy and sideways so we tucked up behind a hedge and gave it half an hour with the mouth caller, by this time the wind and rain was mental so that was the end of that, back to the car, I stopped off at the lambing sheds to tell the fa

Don't go any further cut the strap before pulling any more out so you do not put the whole of the strap out. I have in the past broken the resin sides doing that. carefully and slowly ease the new strap in place. Glue with Araldite. r Hope this might help somebody. Cheers Arry

  17. One of my pet hates is a bully. When you’re the one in the wrong, to resort to threats of violence - makes you a true scum bag. The keepers, farmers and land owners around here don’t have an issue with hunting or running dogs - they have an issue with how it’s done. One said to me lately - they are just scum, the lowest of the low and deserve nothing but contempt. Same bloke has no issue with me running on his ground.

  22. If you go for one try and get a fresh one that’s not been on display, the thing Phil is talking about in an above post is that the main cause of problems is messing with the power while cocked... it wrecks the internals! not a problem altering the power just make sure it ain’t cocked if you buy one?

  23. I can see they will be able to ban Coal but I don't see how they will be able to control the sale of logs. Where are they going to get all these smoke police from they can't even police the country ffs. If you have a wood burner and I do then it's in your own interest not to burn green wood. So nothing changes really. Cheers Arry

  24. I agree plum and apple are good. But Walnut mate they a proper tree get real big and they are lovely trees. I could have bought a whip or a more established tree, that don't do it for me. I foraged them nuts at the same time she was born and planted it so its exactly the same age as her. Also that nut was forming on the tree at the same time she was forming. Its just them little things that give it a bit more meaning if you get where I'm coming from. Atb. Cheers Arry

  29. Lost a mullet tonight, a good one aswell, but now I know the bay the are sitting In. The top of the river goes to a series of 4 tunnels that run under the road and ends on the other side of the road where the 4 tunnels feed into a bay. I'll be hitting that bay now on the High tides as it floods with water, I'm sure there's a few deep gulleys in the water there. But it's also very shallow there in areas. Still gutted I lost it but I still got 2 months here. Work wise I'm here with the army but attached to the infantry so I got my little workshop to sort out the vehicles for the infantry l

  31. I'd really like this to be true but there was plenty of shit things going on before the ban too. The ban definately made it worse but wasn't the cause. The problem is that some people are f***ing morons and you can't legislate against stupid. There are plenty of farmers and keepers around shooting out any quarry that will attract that element. It's a terrible shame for the quarry and the countryside in general but what else can they do?

Still blowing a hooley here on the east coast but I have just popped over to my quarry perm to fill the squirrel feeders................NO WIND so a session on the rabbits is in order if the rain keeps away although we do have a roof on one of the hides and with that in mind, perhaps we should get one on the other hide. Where there is a will, there is a way. ? Phil

  34. in fairness its asking a lot ,to expect a farmer to turn a blind eye to that kind of damage ,and get abused or even physically beaten on his own property by thugs with dogs ,the hunting folk dont need that kind of carry on in the sport, its going to be the end of hunting freedom for all the decent lads ....

It is true that one person every now and then doesn't get on with the Impact or they fart around tuning and tweeking without knowledge of the gun and do damage then blame the gun which has happened BUT the vast majority of guys find the gun to be just what they hope for. I'll tell you exactly how I got 90% of my land bear in mind that times were different back then and although immoral it wasn't illegal. I'd walk anyone's land I wanted to it added to the experience ?? I'd find a nice fox earth and crack on and dig it, no harm done. On the odd occasion a farmer or land owner did come to me the conversation went something like this "WHO'S TOLD YOU, YOU CAN C
