  1. Barn Hunting with a group of friends in Iowa February 2001. Racoons are widely regarded as pests and do a considerable amount of damage. They damage farmer's crops and get into barns where the steal foodstuff and ruin even more with their faeces and urine. They also carry a variety of diseases including rabies. Our first Barn Same trip and the end result of 2 1/2 days hard hunting in bitterly cold weather. All taken with terriers. In the past I've seen "Yanks" come in for a lot of stick on this forum and in some instances it may have been well deserved

  3. It is propaganda which is designed to make the uninformed and gullible believe it, if this badger, the foxes and the crows previous were really hung up by someone not him wouldn't he be showing the pictures of them doing it from his CCTV camera's ? Don't believe the hype.

  4. It snowed in Dixie this morning.Thats about as rare as a hermaphrodite Bigfoot.I got my work done midmorning and was headed digging about the time the snow changed to rain.I loaded up a small bitch.I walked a few miles down river bank to the mouth of a creek where I have consistently encountered otter. This set runs parallel with creek roughly 400 ft.In order to track terrier I stand in the middle of set.I was waiting for terrier to settle. As I was standing there just enjoying nature I felt something under my foot.I screamed and jumped when I looked down. 2

  6. I managed to get today off which is rare during half term. Me and the 2 lads decided we were having a shooting day, so we got the 12g and 28g and us 3 went and sat in the hide for a couple of hours but there was nothing doing, so we packed and went home for some lunch. Once we had warmed up we got the airguns out and went for a good plinking session. We also got the 10yr old lab out of retirement for the occasion and she loved it

  7. Lads don’t be jumping to his tune, it’s all anti propaganda and you fell for it from the start, straight away accuses hunters for killing it, most likely a road kill victim. Yes prob not the best thing to have on your gate but people are sick of his anti bull crap, and just a pity it wasn’t him on the gate

  9. Walk, walk, walk and then walk some more, there's no legislation on walking, even if you're caught out snooping about on private land man up and ask for permission to hunt the land. I'll tell you exactly how I got 90% of my land bear in mind that times were different back then and although immoral it wasn't illegal. I'd walk anyone's land I wanted to it added to the experience ?? I'd find a nice fox earth and crack on and dig it, no harm done. On the odd occasion a farmer or land owner did come to me the conversation went something like this "WHO'S TOLD YOU, YOU CAN C

  11. I went crow bashing last night. There is a roost at the far end of a patch of mine. It's a good march for a pot bellied human after work to get there in time, besides, the dog needed a good walk. Did ok, 10 down, most likely recycled by badgers and fox. These crows are local birds and my good friend and his sheep appreciate it. It's a practice I do every spring to try and limit the damage from pecking eyes out of the sheep when they are in labour or stuck on their backs. It's called animal husbandry. I was thinking of VIP vegans the other day, I wonder if they have ever been dri

  12. I find the whole traveller super species thing hilarious in my experience they are no better or worse than any other community although i do think they offer both the best and worst that society has to offer....a town near me called Harlow was the first part of Essex that travelling families came to in the 60,s and they have a pretty good foothold there, apart from seeing there horses in the middle of the roundabouts they seem to keep themself to themself fairly well but as far as the best and worst of society go,s i had an altercation at a petrol station in Harlow one time with a big bouncy lo

  14. Lost a mullet tonight, a good one aswell, but now I know the bay the are sitting In. The top of the river goes to a series of 4 tunnels that run under the road and ends on the other side of the road where the 4 tunnels feed into a bay. I'll be hitting that bay now on the High tides as it floods with water, I'm sure there's a few deep gulleys in the water there. But it's also very shallow there in areas. Still gutted I lost it but I still got 2 months here. Work wise I'm here with the army but attached to the infantry so I got my little workshop to sort out the vehicles for the infantry l

Used same law years ago to get us out a sticky situation when lurchers and terrier running free ran a fox onto National trust ground and we found the lurchers marking an earth .Luckily terrier was collared up with the old Deben and we made a start only to get caught by some busy body who phoned the law saying it was a badger sette .We broke through to a fox just as we got swarmed on by coppers, chopper in the valley ,the lot .Arrested ,de arrested and on our way all on the sa

So I thought she might get a bit curious about her old granddad who thought to sow a walnut when she was born and plant it so she can see it grow, who knows. Perhaps I'm just a old romantic who would like to be remembered. Cant do any harm can it but we have to be realistic nobody lives for ever. Cheers Arry

  29. So I'm away for 3 months in the Falklands. Never heard of anyone fishing here and when I mentioned to arry of here about it, he told me about the sea trout fishing here. Sent me a few links and I looked into it. Got my trusty 16 quid ngt telescopic travel rod I've had 10 years, and a box of tobys and spinners. Initially thought I had to pay a fee but the permits are now part of.l my jobs welfare package so no reason not to go. My and my mate popped up to the location of one stretch named the frying pan. We blanked the first 2 trips, and It was looking at the ground I realised the river w

  30. Back in the Autumn I was telling you guys and the rest of the world how I had become a Grandfather after waiting ten years and thinking it would never happen. Well in the Autumn I was foraging Walnuts and had the bright idea I would like to grow one for the Granddaughter, so I went about it. Put some Walnuts in damp sand and peat in the fridge in a plastic box then about Christmas wifey was giving me grief about that. So took them up the green house and some where showing signs of germinating so transplanted then into pots. Well chuff to hell some are now up, this one being the one furtherest

Yes i like the impact love the way it looks but thought it was to small for me felt i was to hunched up with it some thing a mate pointed out to me as well the crown was a different ball game all together it was spot on from the start my advice is shoulder them both first (with scopes fitted if you can) and as turning it from 12 to 50 you can do that with the crown as well can you not .

  37. I love that mate that just my vain of thought. Rabid mate putting the nuts in the fridge is to help gemination I think its called stratifying. I suppose its to imitate winter. But I do have 5 out of about 20 that have geminated and come up. I did use fresh walnuts I have foraged which may have helped. put in damp 50 - 50 sand and peat. I also put some in a bucket that had not been scarified and out of about 12 there are 2 that have come up. The Walnut must be planted with the pointed end down out 2 inches deep. I don't know why walnuts but its such a good wood and it produces good ed

  38. It’s a great gesture Arry, and one I have been on the receiving end of, my old gramps planted a walnut for both me and my brother, sadly one died, ( i still have the trunk drying in the shed) but the other still grows strong to this day. my gramps died when I was still fairly young, but I remember him most every day I see that tree. I have also been planting a few trees about the place, mainly oak and ash, but you have me thinking about some walnuts now, how easy dd you find it to do, and what’s the idea of putting them in the fridge

I guessing here but recon the guy you got them off ordered a copy when it came only worked to 5 foot so he complained got a replacement that worked hence the one you have that still looks new. Also hence the one that looks the same that dose work. Christ I hope you get where I coming from nearly lost myself lol. Cheers Arry

Unfortunately with the laws and stuff today you cant really ratchet about looking for fox burrows, but if you can get in touch with someone who has permission to work fox legally may help you out... dont fall at the first hurdle.. if you think your up for it try and seek a mentor.. or you could find yourself in a tricky situation very quick... best of luck.
