Well I don’t really know where to start with today on the shoot, what I do know is I’ll remember this day for a very long time, as I mentioned before my long time shooting buddy was having his first day out with me since he had his heart attack, now I paid for half a gun for him and gave him mine so he could shoot all day, when we arrived Hugo’s dad told me that he had paid for me to stand on team one with my mate because he thought I’d like to shoot with him ( a very thoughtful thing to do ), so one of the pictures is of my 2 favourite people, my shooting buddy and little Hugo, the first driv

I do this especially with ones in heat then use it to attract dogs to the spot where i want to kill them. It works a treat, always have disposable latex gloves with me.

  17. Really tall dogs like deerhounds and their crosses are usually naturally very fast if they have a real good strike they can straight line a lot of quarry and scoop them up before they know whats going on, its good to watch. The problems start when quarry is twisting, jinking and making the dog over shoot, even if the dog is super fit a few missed strikes and over shoots of 20 to 30 yards soon slows the dog down long enough for the quarry to make good its escape, if the dog is not fit they fade really quick usually after one or two missed strikes again making the quarrys escape much easier.

  18. I agree Ant, Joshua has a couple of mandatorys to deal with first but then it surely has to be the Undisputed fight with the winner of the Wilder v Fury fight sometime next year.Tbf to Joshua he has just shown he can fight for 12 rounds comfortably and stick to a game plan for a full fight, he made the right adjustments and he got the win . Well done it was his night and he deserved it .

  24. I had a first cross deerhound greyhound up until a few years back . Got him a 18 months old as he didn't get on with the previous owners Alsatian dog . He was a fair lump of a dog and absolutely friggin useless at anything at first . He did however gradually get better , he was never going to be a great dog but he was half decent after I put some work into him . It was actually good to watch him on rabbits as his technique was entirely different from my other lurcher I had at the time , it's right they cant corner but once going straight he could really shift and he would just swoop in an

  26. You did the right thing, how do I know this? Because I took the option you were going to pick. Way back, I sold all my dogs and went back to University to do a 2 year course. I got absolutely no where with it. I lost my self, my friends, my hunting and for over 6 years lived out of a back pack, 3 of those years in hostels. Workwise a degree got me nowhere. It has taken me near half a decade to rebuild my life, rebuild a home with dogs that you can call a working line. I now am only back to myself and can truly say I have my energy back. Doing a degree and the bullsh1te of striv

  29. As I said glyn there are men like yourself who have the dogs at heart but not all unfortunately are the same, I also like to know how my dogs are bred and what's behind them. Then there is the other side of the coin where names of dogs were plastered all over the and then pedigrees started appearing, made up pedigrees from names that were taken from here and from books and the sad thing is gullible people actually believe them to be true.
    3 points
  30. I personally think the only reason people want pedigrees is for financial gain, nothing more nothing less. Some lads like to know the breeding behind their dogs but they are few and far between lately, in all the years I've been with terriers I have never witnessed it as bad.there was a time when dogs were gifted to like minded lads but now it's all about money. There was a friend of mine who used to come on here but got slated everytime he posted so he stopped. He had and has his own line of dogs about 30 years now and I have yet to see or hear of him asking money for a pup or service, but

  31. As been said do what's best for you and yours ! my misses got sick two yr ago and it was give up my dogs or work and work had to go ,I looked at it like this , if I had lost my soul partner in life ,I would need something to keep my mind occupied and money not everything but my jooks always lift my spirits and they are not just workers but part of family . gave up work and yes it was a struggle but life always a struggle anyway . my misses getting better now and got all clear so I'm back working again ,and my first granddaughter born few days ago so life looking good again

I’ll start with an apology to anyone I’ve offended as of late I’ve been a bit brusque lately and I’m sorry for any offence I’ve caused I don’t really know what I’m doing writing this here in a forum of public strangers but I suppose this is the closest thing I have to social media and access to a group of people I share viewpoints with. Today I may have shot myself in the foot, I was due to start a degree level course in January, something that is feted and grabbed for in my line of work. It’s two years long and Would mean I’d be hanging up the tools I’ve used for over a decade fo

And Bull X's really ? I have seen more crap bull X's in my life than any other cross I'd say game but useless in the field feet stamina and far too heavy if they ever do connect with edible game ? This one probably best I've had the pleasure of that was out of an F1 deerhound greyhound did it all for me and fed plenty this games f****d you only have to read the twaddle on here to realis

  38. I like having the breeding of my dogs or peds when I first got them I got a 3 gen ped which I crossed referenced to make sure they were true , any way that was a long time ago and I've written every thing down since , very handed when looking for a drop of fresh blood , only the other week Dillydog gave me more information on a dogs breeding I used , I knew the background of the dog but not the parents, anyway needless to say very good blood , if I'd not written it down 30 years ago the latest info may never of been found out , I don't think breeding for peds or money or what ever will ma

Fighters with genuine heart/gameness cant switch it on and off.....i dont remember Muhammad Ali falling away like that he took a horrible and sustained beating off Holmes simply because it wasnt in his make up to go down.....to me Mike Tyson was a rough cur who couldnt take what he dished out.....he quit on Holyfield in what he thought was a bad ass way to get out of a fight he knew he couldnt win.

  42. Numbers, 'speed lamping' and a few other things like you've said. Many of today's 'lurcher people' have ruined it for most average enthusiasts. It's all competition now, no knowlege, no empathy for quarry, no fieldcraft etc. People lamping in the wrong conditions, wind and moonwise, making sure that thousands of rabbits up and down the country get lamp shy quicker/easier than they used to etc etc. Hehehe what a ray of sunshine I am ? ?
