  1. Lovely bank holiday weekend good weather and actually think I have a full 2 days to do nothing which makes a huge change so time to get the grub sorted, to start, my all time fav a stuffed and rolled belly of pork, also have a good pile of ribs after boning out, less than £20 and two home made knifes will keep whoever comes through the door fed for the next 24/48 hrs then the chicken, burgers and sausages can get involved, so what we all doing on the Barbie this weekend let’s have it ??

  3. Hopefully these few old pictures and some of recollections from my early teens (the late 1950’s and early 1960’s) may be of some interest. They’re all old style “rag whippets” and pre date the requirement for a whippet to be registered with the Kennel Club in order to enter a race. Typically these dogs ran from about 14-20 lbs (sometimes smaller) and anything past say the mid 20’s would be questioned as to whether it was actually a true whippet (rather than maybe a whippet x greyhound). At that time, my father ran a “drinkers pub” in the heart of the Black Country (aka the Industrial Midl

  11. All day painting the kitchen with the Mrs. All done I needed a break but it's hot! I know let's go sit under that sitty tree on the spring barley! The mighty 410 I took and some Fiocchi 7narf target loads 3"...to be honest I only needed the lighter loads as the ranges were short but hey ho. It was a nice break and the woodies deterred from the grain for another day for the farmer.

  15. Had a quick walk around when out of the marl pit came a howling growling wail of a call. Defo fox. I walked away in the pasture next to it only to return 20 minutes later and bingo I stepped on a fox as I rounded a knob in the field. Amazingly it stopped at 50 yards and gave me a shot. With the rifle resting on the forearm and torch in hand the sights settled on the shoulder and a shot rang out. The collapsed fox was done in but if there is one thing you should do with a 22 it's keep shooting! A rapid succession of shots sealed the deal the Winchester lasers functioning the rifle pe

  16. Here's my lad. Not strictly a plummer, he's half pat. Superb busher if there's something in a bit of cover and he scents it he'll get it moving. Not really a proper earth dog but he will drop down occasionally. Use him to flush to my rapidly useless lurchers ? Cheers

  18. Out at first light with the hushpower 12g. It did well on winged vermin and a rat. A squirrel X3 but then started playing up again. When I got home I found out why. The trigger block that is made of something resembling cheese had snapped in two resulting in a loss of hammer impetus to the firing pin. A call to the dealer and he has promised to look for a doner Pedretti to scavenge the trigger block from.....bloody thing. I was doing alright by it too..... Anyway house chores done and I got out again with my 22. It did ok. Eight squirrels. Only one female! It was

  37. Well the novelty of been a part time keeper for the shoot members has worn off already, trying to get people to go up to feed has proved impossible so it looks like it’s left to the 3 of us again, I don’t understand some people you even get to ride around on the quad looking important, the birds seemed to have settled in well with just a couple dead in each pen, with no real rain forecast for the next week or so all they have to do is eat, drink and bask in the sunshine ?
