  2. 10 months now. The bitch pup I kept on the right, the dam on the left. She's smaller than her mum, about 21", ideal for me and really happy with her. I see a couple of other litter mates and they're variable, the biggest is same size as the dam at 24" Bit of very early ferreting last week, I was asked to clear a warren that was encroaching on someones garden. All went to plan and didn't have to dig.

  15. Getting towards end of the rut here so decided on a look locally to see if I could catch up with a buck I’ve seen sign of but no sightings yet . Fields all cut for big bale hay which I’ve found in the past is a big bonus for calling . Spotted a doe and a follower browsing on a hedge way down by the river field and using the bales managed to get to within 100 yds . Called softly and and she immediately ran towards me causing a response from a buck behind me unseen that charged past me to within 4m to get to the doe that’s closing the gap fast . Whether she was in season or not , she lead

  17. Thanks Barrie. Couldn’t have put it any better. We learnt from the best and your advice and support was immeasurable. Still is to this day. The political tide has yet again turned in both the UK and Ireland. Without the work behind the scenes matters would be a lot different and we always need to keep our eyes on the ball. ?

  19. Well the birds are coming tomorrow another week later than planned due to the weather, this has given us a bit more prep time on the pens, so me and two others have been up today and put a new drinker system in one of the pens, we have been flat out on the tap and the hole thing has cost £15.49 for a fitting for the IBC water tank and 4 hours of our time, I’m very pleased with our efforts, no more manually filling the drinkers at the back of the pens ?

  20. True. But the saying is true, if you stand for nothing you will fall for anything. We have stood for nothing for way too long. It's our chance to stand on our own two feet, if it goes wrong at least it was our choice.

  27. I've probably told this story before. about 6 years ago a few of us from work had a bash at national 3 peaks. I get travel sick and at the time didn't really know how to manage it, other than to be the driver, that stops it. Anyway we did Nevis and then I drove us to the Lakes and we did Scarfell. Two out of our gang of four were clearly not up to it and jacked half way into Scarfell. They were pretty slow going up Nevis tbh. Not gonna lie, I was feeling it coming off the hill at this point and couldn't do the last leg of driving safely, I need sleep. Twenty minutes into sleep and those f***in

Finding a real working bedlington here in the uk is a challenge in its own right unless you know we’re your looking loads of bedlingtons here are just bred out of because there a bedlington mostly for names in there kc reg most bedlingtons that are studded out to running dogs are lied about how good they actually are at working it’s a gamble

  29. I will totally agree that the British Government have been as much of a villain in all this as everyone else......but I don’t agree they are the only villain. The perverse dance we have witnessed the last 3 and a bit years has only ever been about one thing.......how to overturn the result of a legitimate democratic vote that every (british) politician said they would honour. Now, I will say again, that should matter to you as much as it matters to any “leave” voter IF you value your democratic freedom.......if you don’t, then of course you will be in favour of whatever most benefits

  31. We got lucky on Skye a few years back. Spotted a Golden Eagle flying directly over the little cottage we were staying in. First full day there.Tracked it with the bins and it came down about 3 furlongs further down the valley on a craggy hillside straight onto the eyrie as it turns out!! Took my two young girls down to within about 100 yards of it in the car down a little single track road. Not only awesome to see.. but also to hear when you're so close!! Turns out, talking to a local fishermen, the chicks had not long since fledged! Excuse the poor photo.. taken using a small compact ca

  35. On the subject of buying a second hand rifle , there are bargains to be had . A competent rifle smith with a bore scope will be able to look at the barrel and tell you if it’s seen a lot of use . There maybe “heat crackle “ but that is common and does not mean it’s going to be ruined, they will be able to look at the striations and crown and tell you if it has been looked after, or if it’s shot out . The .243 is a versatile round and loaded with a light bullet is capable of performing in a similar way to a 22-250 or some of the other foxing calibers . It can also then be used on deer with a

  38. Hi Glyn God willing and I look forward to it ? That stretch of water and that particular Hunt always hold very special memories for me. In these difficult times there are very few hunts which aren't already strapped for cash and their annual terrier show is an important fundraiser which enables them to continue year in and year out. Just one more reason to keep flying the flag. Failing that, the kettle's always on and we even have one of those fancy pod coffee makers these days ? Kindest Regards - Barrie

  39. The Pulsar N970 digi sight that I use has a Sum light function that allows the user to use the scope and spot/ shoot in low light levels without the IR . This can be used at dusk or on moonlit nights and although it’s not as sharp an image as an illuminated one it’s still usable and totally covert . Coupled with a thermal spotter it is probably the cheapest and best set up I could get . I will be upgrading to a thermal scope for next season, I’m off to the midland game fair later on and will have a look at what’s new .

Drive round the country roads looking for road kill rabbits and if you find any then try and locate the nearest farm and knock on the door. Remember first impressions count so don't turn up in tracky bottoms or a football shirt and don't bring the dogs or kids. Be prepared for more refusals than permissions because every farmer gets loads of enquiries. You are hoping to find a farmer who's previous crew have gone absent or been naughty and got sacked. When I used to drive round the dales looking for rabbit shooting permi
