I've been around a few Kelpies and Kelpie lurchers over the years and can honestly say that their temperament was spot on?

I no longer post to this site, however I watch. I saw Smithy several times at work, he was a very big lump of a dog. Not kept at a sporting weight as he was always kennelled, tall as yr knees. I saw him on couples let up the block end and staked down. Yes he was hard, but never ever saw him dug to, and as we know, any can be brave above ground, I saw him always the above. As were several other marvelous digging "STUD" dogs. That have now got fame. Yeah ! Great ten foot dig to a never mentioned whatever bitch but these inflated gladiators were all that got mentioned. Not really my thing but my youngest lad has joined local club.never misses a day .also gets good advice of the old fellas .

I've sat with Ken and Brian on many occasions, they hated each other with a passion. Ken was a character, a dealer and a spinner of yarns, you can't take it away from him, he had a knack of finding solid foundation to build on. He produced some of the best terriers this country had seen at the time and he put some names on the map. However, he was no keeper of records, and he'd give a pedigree made up on the spot to me, you, and the next person. .....none two the same. Brian was meticulous, he had a good memory and he had paperwork to back it up.

This is how it played out last night . After checking the pens and walking the last of the poults in and waiting for them to settle , I drove to where we had seen the fox and mistakenly thought it was a deer . I set up the fox caller and tucked myself up next to the empty holiday let , just inside the barn . I figured I would stand out less by the building , also the breeze was in my favour. I put the caller on to field mouse for a bit and then on to pheasant distress, I thought , “ yes you b@stard , you know that sound “. I was getting fed up and made a deal with myself to give it till 11.00

Got a Spaniel terrier here too. Great for the bushing and loves his ferreting.

....or I will scream! Walked miles today shooti......scaring winged vermin on crops and had a blast. Got some good sho.....scaring done. Then near the end of the walk bumped into stoaty. A little squeak to get his attention and that was that. Don't tell me I can't do this as resus is a no go!

Smart eh, I like em! I take on board what Stiffy et al say about them being sub par to a bull cross, which is a prevalent type so why try to find something rare. But only as a point and kill type. And even then I feel more uncomfortable with bull over terrier as the base simply because I don't like bulls. Out of all working breeds I find a working terrier the most likeable, temperament wise. I just don't trust bully things. I strongly suspect what attracts me to this breeding is not what most people want. its a dog hes getting bill ,not a f***ing crocodile ,dont be over complicating things ,if ye never had kelpie x ye will learn from each other over time ,...thier very laid back lurchers once the greyhound blood is added ,,,in fact id reckon their perfect for anyone with a calm sensible disposition,.......with an open mind and a lot of enthusiasm the possibilities are endless lol

That is only speculation. Just because that person wrote that statement doesn't prove anything. You have taken a speculative statement and thrown it out there as a proven act. Didriksen has photos of Smithy as a young dog in his book, also records of the dog’s DOB etc, I think it’s pretty much accepted that he bred him.

I've done more investigating on the offspring of this dog than you are aware of,you presume a bit too much,I've seen the dog,told by others how good at his job he is,how much knowledge do ye need to know,as I said,a balanced calm approach to any new worker will pay dividends

Went to a garden this morning not far from home where iv got permission to shoot rabbits and squirrels, only ever had 2 squirrels but a good few rabbits, ended up with 4 decent rabbits all dropped on the spot.
