So it’s been at least 3 years since I ventured out with my rifle, last night I dusted off the cobwebs check my zero and went out on a new permission. Within 2 minutes of stepping out of the truck I was presented with my first rabbit around 90yards away, got him in my sights squeezed the trigger and sure enough I missed him, absolutely gutted, think I rushed the shot (I put it down to the excitement of the chance of getting my first rabbit in a long time) It wasn’t long before we saw another rabbit this time a little further away, got into position and once again got him in my sigh5 points

Took a day off yesterday and headed to the River Tone in Taunton..took SeanC and his mate Jamie (who has only fished a river once or twice)... so it was a quest to find some chub on the stick or waggler.. Spent the morning in the town stretch, where the river runs slow but and a waggler to the far bank can produce good hauls of chub..it fished well enough, even though it was roasting hot by 8am!, we all had a decent netful with chub up to 3lb a few roach and a couple of nice perch... By 1pm the heat was too much so we headed to the fast stretch for a walk...again we had a few chub, n4 points

That twist is very fast and suitable for heavy bullets and or very long bullets. For light bullets you want less twist. All my 243 rifles were one in ten and stabilized 60grn bullets perfectly.3 points

Dryad's Saddle common name Pheasants Wing. Found this big old one would be no good, but then on the opposite side were these young ones. Just took one as they are edible and only classed as fair. Cheers Arry3 points

Hey guy’s. Was out again with my big mate Kev, the three dogs and a few ferrets, after ferreting a local dairy farmers garden that only had a couple of rabbits, we looked around the local area found a very old tip on some sandy ground that looked to be holding a few, so spent a few hours poking around, another fun day out and about. sausagedog is correct in saying a faster twist rate is to stabilise heavier/longer bullets. From what you say your limiting factor is not wanting to dial in so you need something point and shoot. The Tikka T3 supervarmint i had in .243 was about the same trajectory as my .204 if i used 55grn bullets in it. So basically the 204 is zeroed at 230 yds which happens to be one inch high at 100yds and still on the body of a fox at 300yds. When i say on the body i mean if i shoot level with it's back i will hit it just above half way up it's chest. The 243 was very similar, infact i used it to shoot2 points

Bunch of dipsticks I'm a townie but, I understand what the crack is when you live in the sticks. ........ I'd rather hear the grass being cut than joy riders and police helecopters. Matey should keep a big water pistol full of piss for when that lot start moaning again2 points

Thanks sausage, that rules that out . So for a lighter bullet I would be better off with a 1:10 . I bet I end up with another Tikka . ?2 points

If i was looking for a custom rifle i would speak to Mike Norris at Brock and Norris. I have been to his place with a 243 of my mates that wouldn't shoot right. He sorted it whilst we where there. His knowledge of rifles is excellent as is his workmanship. Having said all that a standard 243 twist is 1-10" and all mine have shot 55grn and 58grn bullets really well. How far do you want to shoot?2 points

Always nice to get a bit of permission with a problem like that . I seem to be on top of the areas I look after and am now waiting for for silage and the wheat harvest. Having said that they cut some fields for hay at a chicken farm and I was rubbing my hands together, thinking I would shoot two or three and only saw one , which i couldn’t get a safe shot on . Went back the next night and changed where I was waiting and shot it . That’s another couple of trays of eggs.2 points

Back to topic ….. soak dogs feet in potassium permanganate warm water solution 10 minutes each foot, it aids healing and stops infection. Last thing you want is sore quicks getting infected and causing a nail bed infection.1 point
