Shopping baskets propped up on a stick with fishing line attached was another childhood method to catch birds we would sit for hours as the birds got more confident feeding under the basket then tug the stick and trap a load, these kids today don’t no what there missing ?????

I could understand a teenage girl that doesn't understand been under pressure and terrified but drop the kid into a hotel or McDonald's or whatever. Survival is pretty slim outside in that weather. Pigeons were the order of the day today, so me Jet and the wildcat took a stroll down to our favourite hide down in a small copse on my mate kevs farm . Was bitterly cold when we got there at 7:30 ,but on our approach I could see a few pigeons flittering amongst the ivy picking off the berries ? So got setup in the hide and waited with the dog . Few on my feeders back in the summer.On a busy day they'll empty them.Photos are a bit shit but taken on my phone from indoors.

I get through about 60kg of peanuts and over 100kg of sunflower a year. Had the feeders up in a Acer in a conifer hedge for over 17 years. Today I saw more than 20 Goldies at the same time, the feeders are super busy at the mo. Even the Greater Spotted's are fairly tame, which I know is not common. The sticky gear was called Lyme or lime. Grown out of that shit ?.

Lots of goldies at the minute , nothing unusual to see fifteen plus on and under the feeders , lots of long tailed , coal , great and blue tits , nut hatches and greater spotted woodpeckers.. hardly seen any chaffinches or green finches this year seems like they are struggling at the moment .. these from earlier , top pic is a great tit with a white tail , yellowhammer and the goldies . Not very good pictures but I took them with the iPad through my binoculars...

Keep this topic going lads or have a look in the aviary birds section on here fascinated by hobbies like this sadly passing away with each generation , much like the pigeons my little girl is studying wW1 at school and a local pigeon fancier went in with some and explained about the messenger system they used and how pigeons etc return she’s adopted one now , , her great grandad would be so proud . Not sure how she’d feel about the shamos though

It is an idea that has been floating around in my head for a while....using wast oil to fire a forge up to welding temp. Anyone that does much forge welding knows fuel is expensive! I was looking to keep it as simple as possible so gravity fed fuel and low pressure air with no fancy nozzles to get clogged. This is the solution i came up with. Based around an old propane bottle. Mitch will confirm but I think there is a little more adjustment on the impact but to me the advantage is the way this gun sits between the hands making a very firm grip because there is some umph at nearly 50fpe. I have found it very hard to explain the real advantage of shooting an impact BUT if you test one..............you will know. Phil
