  1. It comes to us all when we keep working dogs and today was my time to say goodbye to an old friend and worker. When I made the transition from being a soldier to starting a business as a pest controller she was my main dog and without her I would never have made it. She was an honest worker who would get up out of the kennel and work seven days a week with never a grumble. She took some serious knocks in her working career and a few i genuinely thought had killed her. I've lost count of the amount of times I stitched her up out on a job and she just got up and carried on working.

  4. The guy is looking pups for himself out of his bitch over a decent dog. As long as the pups aren’t sold on and are worked it wouldn’t annoy me in the slightest. Can see some good points from the comments but to be honest a lot of folk run around as if the world owes them something which it doesn’t.

  15. There are lots of different standards. Same with any type of work. Not many folks will outright say their dog is a failure, but a honest handler will tell you the dogs failings. It really depends on what a typical handler for that breed/type wants from their dog doesn't it, or for that matter what really they'll accept. There are shit loads of gundog owners that wouldn't stand a chance in a trial, me included. Dare say the same applies to herding dogs and security dogs etc etc. For instance. If a lab doesn't retrieve most would consider that a total failure. But then again if that dog is

  19. Simple scenario. Hypothetically speaking if I was to say that I had a few grafters about me, which I don’t ? Say a friend of mine that knows and has seen them work asks could “his friend” have the service off anyone of my dogs over his mates bitch. But I don’t know his mate, never met him before, neither seen his bitch work. I’ve no desire to go in a green field with the lad anyway but I’m told threw multiple sources his bitch is as good as there is around? His mate can have the service no problem. There’s 1 dog I have and if he wants the service of him, out of pure respect I’l

  28. IF he's a "Genuine bloke" as vouched for by your pal, whom you trust and his bitch is a good bitch, why wouldn't you give him the service? How did everyone else get on... only through the kindness of others. We're only passing through, it's up to us to safeguard what was trusted to us, that includes giving others the chance to do the same. There's always the chance things might not go according to plan, but that's no reason to keep 'breeding' to yourself. All anyone can do is mix in the right circles (which usually prevents undesirables calling anyway) and when the opportunity arises vet that

  29. If the bitch was decent and local I would know about it .If the bitch was nothing to do with what I'd bred id like to meet the man and spend time on a shovel before letting him have the service.Nothing to do with up myself but everything to do with what happens to those pups once born .To give out services without first knowing the man to me is lazy and IMO does nothing for the scene as a whole .Just an honest answer .

  31. Not a fan of terriers coupled, nothing to do with incase they get into an argument, which they won’t. Seen more dogs hips ruined with them over the years and owners didn’t even realise. Just lazy really, 2 dogs one lead. No thanks

  43. Ive owned a few and i wish i had my time again to own a few more, many of us where about when this type of lurcher was readily available and a few of us have a fondness for what they brought and bring to the kennel. Its a sad reflection of the lurcherworld now that this type of lurcher slipped from popularity as standards and traditions dropped. This type was a lurchermans lurcher and the popular lurcher types now are a better reflection of the era we live in and a truer type of lurcher is no longer really appreciated now.
