  1. Speaking of getting pups that were bred and handed back, my mate had a border/patt x staff/patt bitch about 9yrs ago, she came up from Cork, handy wee bitch. He asked me could he put my Lakeland over her. So she'd 5 pups. I took a dog and a bitch, both never made the grade. He gave his grandad one his sister one and his mate one. His mates one got out of the yard never to be seen again. His granddad still has his. His sisters one she called Marley, because I remember the film "Marley and me" was out at the time. She handed him back to us at 8 months old because he'd the furniture ru

  5. I still don’t believe the nipper screamed for 8 hours solid.......not at all. May e they have tried beating the granny out of him?.......but let’s face it, who want to hit their child? I think a tap on the arse is warranted on rare occasions but to be honest it breaks me.......I f***ing hate smacking my little lads bum or even shouting at him. So what do you do?.......their little kids, sometimes they don’t give a f**k if you want to watch the movie !

  7. The other week, I was in the supermarket, and heard the screaming child as soon as I went in.............he was literally screaming at the top of his lungs at his mum, who had clearly refused some indulgence. On and on and on he went, getting more and more hysterical.................... As I went around an aisle, I came across them just as mum had enough, and smacked him on his leg. She saw me, rolled her eyes and said "I suppose you're going to have a go, now ?"........... ..........I said "He's still crying - you didn't hit him hard enough, love."

  9. This child has a real problem. It looks like Autism to me. To us and those that have posted here, our reaction would be, " thrash it out of the little Btud." But if you have had dealings with this condition you would have a different view. The boy is trapped in a situation of excessive noise, pressure, people and not knowing what, where, when or why. Now to anyone the answer would be to communicate but the sufferers of this condition cant comunicate normally as you or I would. what I don't understand is how and why the boy was taken on an aeroplane where a meltdown would be almost a certainly

Wouldn't it be a pleasant change to have some decent threads from our American friends about actual days out working their dogs on quarry over there, rather than the name calling, pedigree chasing and all the usual bullshit we are used to on THL.You never know maybe lads over this side of the pond will gain respect for your dogs and the quarry they work.Just a thought

  14. I've always said if the only reason I'd keep a dog was as a pet then I'd do some poor mutt a favour and take him out of a shelter. But mentioning cats and dogs homes there reminds me of a very well known Dublin dog man who back in the times of the trials had a line of workers who gained a nick name as good workers. Their common name was given to them by other dogmen as he used his own prefix but such was the demand for his line that he openly admitted to me that he couldn't get enough out of the cats and dogs homes to sell. And a lot of them worked too. Regarding getting a terrier because

  15. I had another reminder text about the number of deer on one of time farms I manage... apparently they were everywhere but even one would have been too many for this chap! I’d been trying to delay going over as my game larder is temporarily out of action and doubling up as a kitchen while we have an extension done and I’d been told by the wife in no uncertain terms was I not to bring anything back. Anyway, the farmer also casually mentioned that someone had knocked on his door asking about the shooting so I had to put a show in. It was pretty bloody chilly at 06:15 this morning in Somerset

  17. Think there’s a difference between picking runs and not bothering at all. If there’s a rabbit sat a couple of feet from cover and my dog is way off then I wouldn’t expect him or even want him to go full throttle. He will always stalk though. If you think there is a slight chance the dog could catch and he doesn’t run, then this is normally where dog and owner fall out! I would always want a dog to run any rabbit I choose on the lamp and I get most mine from either rabbit errors at the hedge or my dog going in and grabbing them just inside the hedge. Daytime he will watch some rabbi

My old man wouldn't even have to lift his hand. The f***ing look was enough. Mind you yanks are all loud and obnoxious lol

Too much work to do at home today meant I missed my window to go on my favourite rabbit perm tonight so I opted for a quick walk on the golf club at 5 o'clock........unfortunately so did loads of f#*@ing golfers!!!! Seriously......hitting balls in such s*#t light they couldn't even see where they landed!!! After biting my tongue and saying hello through gritted teeth and fists clenched in pockets I made off in another direction. Hardware of choice tonight was the 99s that Si Brown leant me to try out.
