  1. I had a dog many years ago who was predominately collie , the rest whippet greyhound I took that old dog everywhere, as in everywhere, he would wait on me at school and we’d go out, if I was playing football he’d sit at the side and wait , weirdly I never saw him asleep, ever, if you were awake he was! that little collie dog doddled up Lake District hills , swam rivers, ran miles daily, went beating with me for pheasants and foxes , Work the lamp Like a hoover , find rabbits were they didn’t know they were themselves and would do anything I commanded instantly, he cost me 5 p

  12. Good wind last night had me on my toes so morning arose and I was out with the old boy. Going to all the known spots was a fail so turned him loose to run aside the truck just coming to a small dyke I seen a little spoil no more than a small bucket full and the old dog was senting in the long grass but couldn't work out which way it had gone so called him up and turned on his collar and walked him 15 20 ft to the hole on looking I said to myself rabbit but the dog said otherwise. 30 seconds in bump a vixen bolted and was despatched. With being only a one holer I waited for him to rise only to

  13. Well, me and my best mate got a nice two and a half hours in again this afternoon, in one of the natural hides, using the HW 100 KT .177. Here`s the hide view again, the canopy is closing in nicely now. Kaiser retrieving to hand - just for Rez and Matt - look how proud he is, trotting back with his bird . Finally lads - He wanted to pose atb Mark. p.s. I`ll be switching back to the classic hunting next with the 1970`s FWB Sports - I love the challenge they bring.

  14. Out ferreting today with Stuart and Peter.Met up at 0915 and took the last nets up at 1430.Had a nice enjoyable day out and only had a couple of rain showers that did not last too long.We ended up with 15 decent sized rabbits and only got a third of the hedgerow done.Stuart handled the spade expertly today.

  16. No I’ve jacked the dogs in now since I lost my guns because of my youngest stepson, plus the game is ruined now with the muppets driving the land and killing and leaving the stuff, that pees me off big time so why people just starting out now with running dogs amazes me.because they will end up listening to the village idiots and doing exactly what they are doing now.they would be better off buying a PlayStation or Xbox to entertain themselves.but if I did go for a decent bred dog now it would be a good deerhoundxgreyhound x a good beddiexgreyhound though northernlites stuff.as I know his beddie

Here’s another one for you, that’s like saying darcy writes genuine story’s (not) if you have a look at his 1st lurched book he wrote there is a pic with a bullx bitch and a 2ndx deerhound greyhound bitch in the pic with 2 deer lay down in front of my mate.the story is about that bull bitch catching it’s 1st this that and the other.dont get me wrong the bull bitch was as fast as anything and would go in on the kill with any other dog but left to it’s own it couldn’t to it.the only dogs that caught them 2 deer were brother and sister 2ndx deerhoundxgreyhouds.we keep looking through the photos of

  23. Well flooding ain't the best thing in the world when it comes to mink trapping. In fact it can be a nightmare. But flooding don't last forever, and eventually the water subsides. I find this is often a good time to catch mink in numbers, when they begin to return to the rivers after abandoning ship. Managed four mink this morning out of seven traps. And that's after a week or more checking empty traps. I suppose the key factor here is to keep those traps working, no matter what the weather throws at you, so's not to miss an opportunity of a catch. Another thing to keep

Spotted some fresh cranberries at the farmers market and as I had some venison in the chiller thought I’d pep up the usual recipe by adding fresh fruit and real plonk. You can taste the difference ?.

  27. Just bringing a deerhound greyhound 1st x on at the minute will let you all know how she goes on a years time. Still early days yet very happy so far. She is already very quick and very brainy. Loves hunting about but we will see how she goes once she starts fully. As long as she catches rabbits, retrieves fox and tracks deer I will be happy. To me the deerhound greyhound is the traditional pot filler along with the collie greyhound.

  28. Everyone who I’ve spoken with who currently has a deerhound x, including those bred by Dave Platt, were honest about the strengths and weaknesses…but they are still clearly being used. Undeniably however there is now a massive contrast between the deerhound x and the big bull/mastiff x. But that’s part of the problem - Big bull/mastiff’s are killing machines and deerhound x are large traditional running dogs. Don’t get me wrong a bull x are great but there is a place for a different kind of dog.

  29. Daily exercise/mooching about with more than one dog doesn't mean to say that each dog isn't or can't be worked individually either ferreting, lamping or, in the old days, coursing. Taking a group of dogs out together is just a good way to keep them occupied and reasonably fit as far as I'm concerned.

  30. Is the law over there that folding blades up to 3 or 4 inches (I forget which) are legal if you have a genuine reason to carry it. I'm not sure what the law is here but I once asked a policeman what would happen if a Gard stopped me with a knife. He said most would see if you had a good reason to have it on you straight away. In saying that, I once walked around Tescos with a 3 inch knife on my belt I'd forgotten to take off. Most good countrymen IMO would feel naked without at least a penknife in their pocket. I use mine every day.

  31. It's an annual tradition with us. We try to get at least once a year on the bigger lakes. We've usually got early ice by now but the temperature is only dropping below freezing briefly. I'd recommend it if you ever get the chance but wrap up! Sub-zero combined with windchill really tests your gear!

  42. Nah, rain is never the problem if they have water, if there is a low spot gathering water that is where they will be, if drainage is good they will look for the low spot and go paddling. Get a pair and test the idea, a pair you can sell off or .... at least do some thing quickly to resolve. and YES I badly need to tidy my yard. You will notice how dry our environment is, they fair fine and are quite old as Ducks go. The feeder drum... the joint between the drums is about waist height. The feeder unit under the main drum holding feed. This spins out

  45. In October, the National Mis-trust are voting at their AGM on whether to allow trail hunting to continue on their land. It's a big call, especially for the fell packs, whose whole existence could depend on the outcome. It looks like a few well known antis (and Christ knows what else) have managed to get this to a voting stage. If you're a member or any of your family are, please get this proposal binned and let's maintain the right to exercise and trail hunt our hounds. The fell packs are legendary, and villages and hamlets in the lakes are close knit communities. Hunting and hounds play a maj
