Back in the day, a lad round ere I used know had 2 Tom Riley deerhound lurchers. Not half crosses , just lurcher x lurcher. He was very friendly with Tom and used go up Caithness and stay with him every season to run a few hooves with his dog. He always came back with some mad stories lol. Must admit I used to enjoy Tom's articles in edrd. I was bang at myself up Scotland on a weeks hunting holiday most seasons back in the day, sadly our paths never crossed as I would of liked to av ad a brew and met him. Nothing to do with deerhounds tho, but I did have the pleasure to be invited to Tommy11 points

Not going to well this job, no fixings for the gates so I’ve managed to pick some up on my way home, so I’ve put a base in for a greenhouse today and cleaned around a pond because he’s thinking about making it bigger ( that will be a good job)5 points

Yes,. .Anastasia produced a better class of Deerhound for the original job, and some, were even passable at organised hare coursing,.. (although it was never their proper vocation).. Back in the day,.. we used one of her line , straight over an Irish coursing Greyhound Dam,...the resulting progeny were Page Three stunners, absolutely beautiful,.. and more than adequate, for the Roe an Fallow Does. However,.as a mere rabbiter, I required a slightly smaller, more compact jukel... I wanted to retain the fabled 'easy to live with ' temperament of the noble Deerhound, whilst bringin4 points

The worst aspect of breeding pups is the amount of time wasters, hagglers, tyre kickers and beggars they attract. I've bred a few litters of springers and as you say they all,go by 8 weeks. I would never breed lurchers, they attract the wrong type of people. Imagine mchull on the phone. f**k me, a fate worse than death.3 points

Hybrid vigour is usually at its peak in the first cross. Subsequent matings between the hybrids tend to lose the initial advantages . Not all hybrids display vigour; some are degenerate failures. The only real advantage biologically is that rare animals that suffer a scarcity of breeding partners of their own kind that can sometimes find a partner of a commoner and related species . Assuming the hybrid young are fertile they will be be a reservoir for 50% of the rare parent's gene's. A mating of the correct type will produce young with 75% of the rare genes. I was told early in life the trick is to find summat you enjoy, wished I’d listened an done it younger, but it’s never too late, funny you say that tho me an my eldest were chatting other day an he asked me what I’d do if I couldn’t mole anymore, without even having to think I knew the answer, I fancy growing weed, but not on some shitty ole boarded up council flat, properly on a large scale, I think it would be a cracking game to be in, loads to learn, loads to keep up with as things evolve, an let’s be honest it’s hardly manual labour is it, an imagine the satisfaction in seeing a real big c3 points

I’m same pal o couldn’t be arsed with it. But if a kid local asked for a lining of any my mutts then they would get it, if they fcuked aboht an peddled pups or that they wouldn’t get no more, but j wouldn’t start off being a prick, especially to a kid3 points

Years ago I used to work fir an engineering company...we used to stock pile big chunks of steel in the yard and every year pied wagtails would nest in the steel....one year they nested next door on the steps going up in to a big truck...literally just on the step in plain view...the truck was stood for a week or two....then one day it had to go out...so the nest was moved ...then when the truck came back they put the nest back on the truck...the birds didn't seem to bat an eyelid....everyone was looking out for them to be honest ...and keeping the local cats away...3 points

John was up to his neck in it he didnt quite fall into the category of squeaky clean role model type i was referring to Boxing and pubs went hand in hand back then certainly in East London lots of gyms were on a pub premises and it was quite normal for ex fighters to move into that game, very few had troubles as local faces of the day just wouldnt tolerate anyone moving in on a celebrated local sportsman....parts of East London had solid communities back then who would protect and stand up for their own. As a business no it was never something they was going to get rich at but again3 points

Iv walked away from a few over the years, sayin that tho iv also walked away from a couple a lovely healthy litters cos I just didn’t fancy them, to a certain degree I would sway the type or cross I was after, but I’d never sway on the litter. So if I was after a nice whippet pup an couldn’t find one that suited but saw a whippet x litter that j fancied I wouldn’t think twice about changing the cross or type, but again most mutts can do what I do to a degree. Madness when you see a healthy pup on here an folks saying how good it looks, when all pups should be a picture of health haha2 points

Eh, tha what, FFS , no wonder this country is f****d,, look there's no need fer drugs, spend ya money on summat gradely, when i get a bit down, which is very rare, i just log on here fer a laugh at some of the topics, works fer me, big cats, wormers fer cancer, to name but many .off to the seaside shortly, fer a dip in the old briny, eh, I'm still standing2 points

I went to see an old mate a few weeks back,he used to be a self hemp-loyed botanist,he had a bit of trouble so now works as a builder,he was chatting about his old job and his eyes were lighting up at the memories,I asked him isn’t he happier nowadays with structure to his day,no looking over his shoulder,a basic weekly wage paid into his bank rain hail or shine,he didn’t even miss a beat, not even for a nanosecond to answer “Am I f**k” and we both laughed.2 points

Spaniels are my worst nightmare haha them fcukers make me dizzy jist watching them haha iv bred 2 litters in me time, one was a litter of Middleton lakies, birch come direct off him an was here for 12 years, went back an used his dog as stud, an there was only 4 pups, all went to family or guys I work dogs with, not a penny changes hands anywhere, tho the lads who took the pups where always handing in bags of meat an stuff for them, then bred same birch agajn to a collie haha it’s what we was using tk beat woods to lurchers, an he was amazing at it an so was the lakie so we bred them an kept a2 points

It’s that much hard work I refuse to do it haha far easier ways of getting a pup in, an 9 times out of 10 if you look about you will find pups bred off dogs better than your own, it’s just being honest with yourself I think, if I genuinely thought I couldn’t buy or beg a better mutt than what I like breed then I’d breed, but how often have we for the best about in our kennels? Iv had some decent dogs but always knows dogs a bit better haha2 points

I’m no fan of pubs, as I’ve got older my c**t-o-meter has broken and I can’t deal with pissed people talking bollocks…..but, that said, you can’t beat and old traditional English pub..maybe a little quiet country place or somewhere out the way…..there’s one I used to go to with a mate in the Cotswolds and that was blinding, the sort of place you could go every evening. The Queens Head at trout beck would be another, very nice…. But the city pub is done for, shitholes of highest order….never used to be that way, they was hubs of their locality’s2 points

Jmho, but Britain has fallen off the cliff now……this can’t end with nice, clever, sensible, kind solutions…..this is a mass deportation job, even with those who have been here a couple of generation's. Wherever their roots are is where they are going, it don’t matter if you are an outcast on the world stage or if you are subjected to sanctions as a country, the financial cost don’t matter……if we don’t deport every single 3rd world incomer from whatever region of the world, regardless of of their history in the country (no more than eighty years anyway in 99.9999% of cases) then Britain a2 points

He does learn a lot more an faster, schools are shite now mate an prob only suit 2/3rds of a class, the other kids who can’t concentrate an that should be let up an out to do summat else. My youngest in pics was very lazy at school an was starting to fall behind, my other 3 kids are real clever kids, not just just saying that, but we just thought he wasn’t gonna be as academic, but out on farm an stuff I got him reading daft stuff an doing simple maths, turns out he only learns if it’s summat that interests him, same as me haha he above most in his class now, but again comes home a lot an asks2 points
