I know some people and most vets say you should worm a pregnant bitch daily from about day 40 (depending on which wormer you use). What i want to know is if any actually do. I have heard some stories about reabsorbtion etc when wormer is used during pregnancy so how important is it?

I personally worm all my dogs every 3 months and worm the bitch before mating but i dont worm through pregnancy and then i worm the pups with liquid wormer at 2 wks

I have seen that you can use drontal plus from 2 weeks of age and this would be my preffered choice of wormer so im thinking of using it this time round.

I was just wondering about other peoples experience with this wormer on young pups. Using the paste i have never had a problem with worms in the pups but its hard to ensure they get the exact dose and sometimes the spit it out or shake their head and it goes everywhere so i think ill switch to tablets this time round.

Worming the bitch throughout pregnancy will do no damage whatsoever. Definately worm her 2 weeks before giving birth to lower the birden of worms to the pups, also worm the bitch every time you worm the pups. I find using liqiud or paste a waste also as like you have stated they spit it out. I drontal tablets even at 2 weeks old, usually a quarter of a tablet with no problems. Good luck with them!

mate i would carry on doing the same as you have always done. i have bred a fair few pups over the years and i worm before mating and the pups at 2 weeks with drontal puppy suspension .iv had no problem with worms in the pups.i give 1ml per kilo. worming a bitch half way through pregnancy doesn't make any different as the round worm eggs are all ready in the dogs muscles and come when the time is right. hope this helps

Yeah, i have had 2 litters and did as i am doing in this one and i havent had any problems with worms. I have heard of people having bad pups or reabsorbed pups from worming them though never heard anything bad from not worming aslong as they are done before mating and at 2 weeks old.

I've always wormed my bitches during pregnancy. The hormones that are released while they are pregnant cause the encysted worm eggs in their bodies to develop. Worming before mating won't get rid of these eggs. So the pups will have a much heavier worm burden if you don't worm your bitch when she's pregnant.

I've always used Panacur for pregnant bitches and pups but others swear by Drontal - personal choice.
