Anti chicken ground cover

Recommended Posts

... yes, I know it sounds weird .... :D

My back garden is a mud pit, courtesty of the lurcher but now I've got two chickens roaming around back there, plucking out every last blade of grass.

Just wondering if there is some type of ground cover I can put in that chickens aren't keen on eating? I know it's a long shot but it's a better idea than paving the lot.

This time of year if it is down to mud you are knackered.

Ark housing for the Chooks. Corner for the Lurcher. The rest fenced off and pricked with a garden fork, ie improve the drainage, you can even apply some Hort Grit. Next spring give it a good rake and sow some hard grass. Keep the chooks in their Ark, and the dug in its corner.

GOOD ADVICE J.G. ......... STRAW IN THE ARK OR BARK CHIPPINGS

LET THE HENS OUT ON THE GRASS IN DECENT DAYS ....... LURCHERS SLIDEING IN MUD AND RUNNING AROUND LIKE LUNEYS AINT A GOOD IDEA ,

BELIVE IT OR NOT ASTRO TURF WAS ONCE AN ESSENTIAL PIECE OF KIT OF THE WANNABEE GYPO IN THIS AREA ........ ALL THE GARDENS WERE COVERED IN IT .... SOME WITH PENALTY SPOTS STILL MARKED :whistling:

ALL THE BEST

Thanks you lot .... I'll be keeping the chickens in a run when I manage to get one. Until then they're decimating the place  But whatever, at least their happy hens.

I don't even let the dog out there at the moment, she's done enough damage. I have a lot of work to do in the spring :(
