Starting Wildfowling

Recommended Posts

Dear all,

I am ashamed to say that I live overlooking the River Tay Estuary, and I am 10 mins from Montrose Basin, but I have never shot a goose, (with a Shotgun).

It is something i have wanted to try for quite a while, but have never managed to get a grip of the legislation etc, Ie where you can legally shoot.

Could someone suggest a definative source of information that can be relied upon for accuracy?

I have no wish to break any laws.

regards

Matt

I can recommend Both a Person and a Website.

The Person in question is Wag, Anything you need to know, I'm Sure he'll help you out. Him being a prolific Wildfowler.

And the website I would recommend is http://www.basc.org.uk There you will find plenty of Information.

As you are in Scotland, the Law is different regarding the Crown Foreshore and who may shoot on it. I believe that anyone can shoot on some parts but don't quote me on it

Have a read through the BASC site and you'll have all the info you need.

Regards

SS

hi matt ,S/S has given you good advice , i try to get to shoot the tay about 3 or 4 times a year its a great place to shoot. its also very big place to shoot too, with limited access points on to the foreshore, which means very long walks to where you need to be . my advice would be try these http://www.tvwa.co.uk/ see how you get on

also if i remember when shooting montrose basin, you have to apply to the ranger in your area for a permit but this has to be done by july i think im not quite sure just check on it mate .

if you need anything else mate just let me know if i can help i will do .

also have a look at this http://www.basc.org.uk/content/wildfowlingpractice

The basin is a permit tidal water & has a club on it. You can shoot any other tidal water & there is some good bits in your area. You can get a permit for the basin to shoot but its to late now i think but the coast has good spots & im looking to try a new bit this year maybe.
