Looks like the Lurcher lads will be O.K. So long as you don’t intentionally go after hares or foxes, if one gets in the way while you are after Rabbits then that’s just unfortunate, as long as you weren’t after hares/foxes from the start. A difficult one to prove.:rolleyes:

Terrier work, different kettle of fish. If you get caught with a Terrier to ground, a spade and a locator, I guess they would say you went out with the intention to dig Fox. If you are out exercising your Terrier and it goes to ground with out your encouragement then you have to get it back somehow. A tricky one that, because even if you have digging equipment in the van it could be viewed as intentional.

Would like to hear anyone’s opinion on how to legally get your dog out of an earth.

Plenty of government stuff at http://www.defra.gov.uk/rural/hunting/hunting_qa.htm , about as clear as mud to me.:cry::cry:

Of course you could say stuff it and carry on as normal and hope you don’t get caught, a bit like driving at 80 mph, most people do it, and only a few get fined.

Good luck to all, whatever the future holds. :good::good:

Gamebirds you can, yes.

Livestock you can't

So if a fox is taking pheasants it can be bolted using a terrier provided it's then shot.

But if it's taking chickens, lambs, piglets, or even the next door neighbours rabbits, guinea pigs or pigeons, (which happens from time to time round us), you can't use a terrier as an earthdog to bolt it.

Defra say "In practice, persons relying on this exemption will be trained gamekeepers and it is unlikely that anyone else would be able to make legal use of it."
