WENT, OUT ABOUT A HOUR BEFORE DARKNESS, the hares are starting to group up now, i thought i would give the pup a run before the BAN, not that i care a fxck about it, just nostalia i suppose, anyway made my way to a spot i,ve been watching the last few days, this is ideal ground for a pup , of the breeding i have, short fields and hedgerows , no chance off any strained muscle, well i hope, just as i entered the dolly hole, i spied 3 hares , they just sat there in a group about 50 yds away, i quietly drew the pups attention to them , he spotted and took of, they reached the hedge before him , i watched him run through, then i ran myself to the hedge about 50yds downwards, i got through ,and spied the pup with knose to ground , he was going up and down in short bursts ,i knew straight away ,that not all the hares had left the field, i whistled and he came over to me, then i stood in the hedge and waited, it was not long about a couple off minutes when a hare rose about 30yds out, i stood and watch ,the hare crouched , and i marveled like i always did ,at the way they can hide ,in vegetation that would not cover a sparrow, it moved a bit, and the pup went into action , the hare spotted him straight away and turning right dodged him , i knew this would be a game off the hare more or less saying you do what i do , you,ve no chance but follow me anyway ,well the pup did ,now the grass here is a bit tufty ,not a lot but enough for the pup to hold ground better, well he managed to turn the hare before the hedge, well the hare turn him before the hedge ,and headed towards me ,the hare on spying me headed out a touch and the pup to my surprise closed in, he gave a strike ,missed lost ground then followed thre hare as it went through the hedge close by ,pup behind , then me following after, there was a quick rise to the land here, so they were out off sight instantly ,i just stood ther a moment then made my way to the top, i then spied the pup running up and down the hedge, i never called him ,just stood there and waited, he then after a moment turned and headed back to me, i said good dog , he was panting a bit , so we took a slow walk back to the van, just to let him cool off, i,ve owned dogs that have killed hares for fun , but at this moment i was as happy as a lark in spring, just the chase gave me that boost what only hunters know, i have decided to look for a dog , just for the hare game next season ,ho i will not be parting with the pup, he,s on a other agenda for me.

great post Learner....lets have some more...how big has the pup ended up???i hope to have a trip down soon enough to go for a sly walk...or if your passing call in for a brew and we can "snare a few larks" together...LOL

LEARNER, i throughly enjoyed reading your post. You write in good detail and i had the same feeling as you [bANNED TEXT]. Good luck with your dog

THANKS LADS, some times the truth can be more exciting than fiction, the pups about 24 to 25 inches, 9 months, its a case off him thickening ans muscleing up now, as for the LARKS, MR DARCY, i think a certain lad in ROTHERHAM, as mopped all them up.
