What are the best / top makes of skinning/gutting general hunting knifes please

I've got a folding Gerber Gator with a separate Gut Hook - light but great for skinning rabbits etc in the field. Also have a very good Smith and Wesson Bullseye skinning knife.

 

Both resharpen well and can be used delicately so as not to damage the meat.

Comes in both stainless and carbon steel and only a tenner.

yeah i have a buck knife they are good knifes hold a sharp edge for ages opinol arnt a bad knife for the money either

I read somewhere that carbon steel knives (like the opinel in brb's post above) hold a sharper edge than stainless ones.

 

For those who wish to buy british, google up Reg Cooper or Terry Ablett. Sheffield 'little mesters'. Ibberson is another good make. Wostenholme make good knives, but they are Japanese blades nowadays.

my folding winchester holds a sharp edge longer than any of my knives, looks good and is pretty non-slip for the accident prone

Well generally carbon steel knives are easier to sharpen but Stainless holds an edge for longer

I prefer Stainless as I live near the Sea but as long as you look after a carbon steel knife it shouldnt rust.
