Thanks for all the replies lads

No moderator on my rifle Jamie. Too busy for me to bother going through the hassle for getting permission for one so I am doing without. I do plan on getting one once I get myself together. In the meantime it's hearing protection

yes its mad how much a mod does cut it out. i had some shots on my hmr the other day with out mod and that is

scary loud :icon_eek: and a deep boom from the blast when the trigger is 1st pulled.

ive heard a couple of 223's with muzzle brakes and there even worse  mind you good fun when on a range

is it easy to get a mod over there john like it is here. or do you have to go about getting one a different way ?

like fill in more forms and stuff ?

I think I'll have to write to a Garda Comissioner after May, as centrefire moderators will be on a restricted list then. That doesn't mean they're impossible to get but I do expect some amount of hassle. I think myself I have good and genuine reasons for getting on though so I'll give it a try BEFORE I get my rifle threaded. I'll have to get more information from Irish sources myself before I go about applying though.

Health and Safety (EARS), is a good arguement for a moderator and is the main reason they are granted "quite" easily in England now!

5 and certainly 10 years ago it was an uphill battle to get a mod, but no more...main problem now is that on a centrefire they are just so f*****g expensive!

On the Uk mainland I got my sound Moderator about 15 years ago by going to my doctor saying that I had just started to get a ringing sound in my ears (big fib really :whistling: ) He said I may have the start of tinnitus - went home to look that up - exactly what I needed. Applied for a variation for a moderator on the grounds of health reasons stating my doc had diagnosed tinnitus and they were welcome to check (don't know whether they did) - two weeks later granted
