rickardo 76
hi my gyr/pere used to chase corvid off the fist but the last few flights you slip him and he will go the other way gain height then smack them like a game hawk ? the problem where i work there is a serious amount of corvid do you think this is a bad thing the way he flys or not cause im realy thinking of using him for a game hawk next season . lukmoun4 0
it is good if you want him to be a game hawk have you tried kite training him. he is probably getting the height advantage of the crows so they can't mobb him Quote Link to post
Rentomski 0
If he takes a pitch then he may make a game hawk, if he doesn't then he won't! My Gyr/Saker is good on corvids, that is the way he is, he doesn't take a pitch and probably never will. For myself, if I wanted a game hawk then I'd go out and buy a pure Pere; saves a lot of fuss and bother! Quote Link to post

ayrshiretaxidermy 29
yes he is kite trained, Heres the scenario - You spend a lot of time making the bird good as a game hawk. Off you trot onto a grouse moor, work hard to get your dog on point, cast the falcon and off he goes. Once he gains pitch, you call him over and the second you flush......a crow decides to come over for a nosey and the falcon checks on the crow. Grouse buggers off, happy as larry, dogs pissed off, your raging, falcon catches corvid a mile away, so off you trot across the heather, day wasted. Its easier to turn a game hawk into a pursuit bird, than the other way round. I wouldnt even attempt it. Quote Link to post
