Roe deer

Has anyone one else noticed the upsurge in roe deer numbers recently? Around these parts you used to be lucky if you saw one or two now we are seeing small herds of five and six often within a couple of fields of one and other.Is anyone elses ground become like this and what do you think the reasons for it is?

Roe have definately boomed mate .Personally ,i attribute some of there success to the upsurge in fox control after the ban on fox hunting with dogs .

Roe form small herds during the winter and during late winter/early spring they do seem to move out into open ground where they are more visible giving the impression of a sudden increase in numbers.

 

Apart from that overall Roe are doing well and spreading into new areas.

roe deer are alway's booming in fife i counted 30+ this morning when taking client's to pigeons

i wish the numbers would rise around me there is only a few and i only realy see them when out lamping

Well i counted around 13 roe on the way home from aderdeenshire this afternoon will soon be out after some come the end of this month

i see your from killie so you must have been past glsagow airport .you even seen a small group of 4-5 in the field at the paisley slip road coming from phoenix linwood and this can be midday

the roe are getting more wide spread across the country but more so up in scotland i have seen more numbers up there than down here in england could be due to what the farmers are grownig as crops better feeding areas makes better breading areas the does will soon be out of site for a while when they have there young

Hello i havent read all the post but in febuary/march the cover & food value is at its lowest.The main reason is the does fetus is very heavy & she will feed out all day bringing her last year off spring too Which is normally 2 kids in good areas with good feed etc out.The doe needs to feed to develope the fetus & herself & bucks will be in with a doe teratory too & be packing in body weight after putting in an effort to grow a head. If you have a couple does together with kids & couple bucks then you could see wee groups of 5-10 roe out in fields.
