Hi hedgesteeper, i dont class myself as a deer expert, but scooby has bagged over 20 CWD and i have yet to see any acting aggressively....they do not want to attack a dog....ever.... however, muntys can sometimes geta little frisky, my dog has been spiked twice this year, once badley and the other just a skin tear.....i think you must try and start your lurcher on any deer really..as long as the dog is big enough and mature enough, but, i would leave the fallow and sika alone until they have knocked over a few roe as i beleive taking big deer with your dog will cause it to alter its style on the little deer.....but thats JMHO....either way, good hunting...JD

bushingman on here's dog nearly died from a munty from were the injuries were i would of said they were cause from the deer thrashing about trying to break free , also heard of a terrier localy that died while bushing the munty disemboweled it ! muntys are from the prehistoric era so they must have a good few tricks up its sleave

I agree with JD, CWD have never tried to defend themselves, as for muntys only had one attack back and cut my dog. My dogs have had over 50 of the muntys and god knows how many CWD,the more you catch with your dogs the better he will be at finishing them.

Chilli, from what i have seen i would say that a munty does attack when the dog grabs it...of course, they wouldnt attack if unprovoced, but they want to slice the dog when they are captured....i try and get there ASAP...once a dog has been sliced by one im sure they know what to exppect and will go into the fray very hard,,good hunting....JD

Hi Chilli, when i say "attack" i mean raking its head up and down in an attempt to stick the dog..., of course, if the dog let go then the munty would not follow up its assault...at the end of the day, its the dog that goes looking for a ruck..and it sometimes gets it :)
