Geese at night

Hi

 

I've heard of geese being shot at night on a clear moonlit night,do they fly at night or is it in the early morning and as its getting dark at night?

i've got some permission in lincolnshire,its a single field which they are on alot ,maybe 200 -300 greylags and 300 canada's,not all at the same time and sometimes they are not there at all ,but next to this field there is a lake (which i dont have permission) and they go between the lake and the field ,i've set up under a tree between the two and they do come over but its predicting when they are going to be moving most or moving at all?

this morning was good because they didnt seem too settle ,maybe that was the wind.I dont have decoys as i'm not wanting too pay out for them,but the farmer does feed sugar beet/and potatoes to the cattle that have just been taken out of the field and that attracts the ducks and the geese.

 

Any help/tips would be good

you can if you have a back lit sky but i find evening flight to be best 5 to 8 in the evening and the bigger the wind the better ,,if you don,t want to use decoys definetlly get a goose caller it will really bring them that bit closer ,,sounds like it,s a good shoot you have ,,all the best

At night when the moon is out the geese do fly at night to feed. I have found that after 4 or so hours into darkness they start to fly and can be heard through out the night. However unless there is a thin layer of cloud in the sky looking white due to the moons rays it will be almost impossible to see them and therfore shoot them. The geese's black outline can be seen against the white clouds. You will need to know where the geese feed during the day as it will be most likely they will return there. However the movement of geese is very random. Certainly it has been found that with partys of pink feet they can be found feeding in Norfolk in the morning and sitting in Scotland for the night. I usually lie flat to the ground on the edge on the field near a bank and call the geese in, by imitating the gander with a low harsh call like onk onk using the back of my throat. Use of decoys also help and quality doesnt matter seeing as its dark. It is an amazing thing hearing and seeing the geese come in to you at night, an experience never forgotten.

if i was you i would (do my homework!!!!!)I mean watch the geese 's movements and flightlines and then position yourself in a prospective spot !!!! and invest in a goose call !
