bowderdale 22 Posted January 7, 2008 Report Share Posted January 7, 2008 Just wondering if theres a big difference in the price of day old chicks(common ring necks) from all the game farms around the country, i reared 500 day olds this season which was the first attempt on my behalf, i also bought in 500 7week old poults i'm wanting to get them all as day olds for the comming season 08, i paid 75p for them, can anyone recommend a game farm ? I got 200 mallard from high fly in blackpool, anyone know what there pheasants are like. I paid 90p for the ducks is this about right ? Quote Link to post

Guest little_lloyd Posted January 7, 2008 Report Share Posted January 7, 2008 John5 Personly i would not catch up the ducks But if you are to do it,, i dont think anyone will have the ducks for you,, build a laying pen.,, preferblely by a nice pond or bit of water for there needs and collect the eggs up and ask a local game farm/hatchery to do it. Of they wont, buy and imcubator. I would just let them take there chanches on your current flight ppond,, just keep all your egg predators down and keep a close eye on the eggs and chicks and the parents through out the laying period. Quite agree, this coming seasons birds will be more expensive, and that increase will only continue. I think many small shoots will end up sorting their own birds to keep the costs down over the next few seasons; which unfortunatly will only have a bad efect on the smaller game farms...... Firstly its other,things which will effect ..cost of lpg and electricity in rearing and hatching 15 percent raise ..Fuel ,cartridges and the price of cover crops are all going to raise.I can see a lot of keepers catching up this season.We have allready been asked to do partridges this forecoming season about 500 ..The rearing sheds are being cleaned and revamped for this first time in years.
