Preliminary reports are suggesting that this is some kind of wolf/dog hybrid as there have been increases in these animals predating on livestock in this area over the last few years. The animal had been legally shot, under state law, even though it wasn't directly interfering with livestock. Montana Fish & Game have sent the body off to the lab in Bozeman for DNA testing but it's this reporter's opinion that it's probably an unregistered wolf hybrid pet...
