Went to check the bees this evening and it’s was going off! Found what I assume was a swarm handing off their hive although whether it was from that hive or not I’m not sure. I didn’t take my smoker and there was a mix of docile bees and  bloody pissed off ones.

I made them even more cross trying to move the hive+ super to get at the mass of bees hanging underneath of the hive.

What a bloody disaster. Completely out my depth and probably made things worse!

The swarm is in an old nuke hive now... will check again tomorrow to see if they’re still there!

I know next to nothing about be keeping Bees but heard a old saying.

A swarm in May is worth a rick of hay.

A swarm in June is worth a silver spoon.

A swarm in July is not worth a fly.

Yes mate - I’d rather it wasn’t mine swarming though! There was a small cluster in the same place this morning and the nuke hive I put the other in yesterday was still active so hopefully I’ve got away with it. The main hive was absolutely heaving so I still not sure if it was them that swarmed or simply their hive was a convenient place to rest for another hives cast?

any beekeepers on here with any advice please get in touch!
