Fell terrier cross

This thread has been done before I think so I apologise. I've been wondering about this cross for various reasons I'll not waste too much time on. Done a bit of searching and found what doesn't surprise me to be some well made little lurchers. Selection I found below (you'll have to forgive me if any of these pictures are yours, please claim the photo-credit).

An American (Dan I think?) off here has a cracking looking jagd whippet too.

Seems to be the odd litter bred, question is are these odd matings intentional working bred stuff or just agility and flyball types? Boggles me a bit why this type ain't happening more. I suppose they are too far away from running machines to be of interest to most. I see them as gritty, small and robust with a temperament that personally I could work with.

A greyhound based one would be even more interesting but they're like f***ing unicorns...

there was some crackers  on a rat vid   that was going around, real nice little black dogs, these were  pat x whippets . i know there  different type x , but pats  used  be called fell terriers , few years ago  . these   pat x whippets  , think there were 1xs , but might be wrong, but looked great , for rabbits , rats, and prob pile in to a fox  no prob  , real nice little lurchers

Was told a while back of a fell type x collie that would do most things a little lurcher can and more. I'd imagine a hard earth dog put to a whippet would produce some tough little animals.

I was going to put Patterdale but I felt Fell was a bit more general. But aye, my thoughts exactly.

Indeed, gritty and robust are the first words that come to mind! Not specialists at anything, just a type that would be keen for anything, take up little space and be well suited to vermin and rough woods and hedgerow country.

Looks a surprisingly racey build. I suppose with fell terriers being so varied there is the potential for that as well as more boxy types. For someone with a whippet or grew bitch the choice of different terriers, build coat etc, of excellent breeding and field tested in this country is overwhelming. Finding a decent stud for the base blood would be easy. Makes it all the more puzzling. Cheers

There was a grew pat round here accident mating both good workers bess she was called good on edible gutsy thing good ferreting and mooching bitch and good on roe and never backed down on anything else  tough as old nails good feet and nose sadly never grafted to her full potential  owner often found the holy trail in his latest buy and she was left at home I often wondered what her offspring would be like put back to a good  running dog stud

A friends son had one about ten years ago. Dug over it one day up at its quarry. Little broken coated dog about 19 or 20 inches. Could be a handy little dog or a massive pain in the ass. Could end up having to put a tracking collar and a bellman on it. Lol.

I've always wanted a terrier/ whippet,think they would be great ferreting in bushy areas and around buildings,wood piles and creeks.Heard there a bit hard to handle and keep up with.They use them here on pigs in blackberries and thick tea tree.I think some could be too noisy chasing rabbits but would still like one.

I have a Bedlington whippet x Patterdale. She's a cracking bitch and a good ferreting, ratting, bushing dog. My whippets catch rate as doubled since she came along. I have seen a Middleton bred lake land x greyhound and pups turned out good grafters. Fell, Lake land xs are not used often to make lurchers as much as bedlingtons but I think they would be just as good, my little bitch is great dog and wouldn't b without her, atb

It is isnt it, frankly I think they all look nice animals, a bit like small Wheaton greys. I think I'll just have to keep an eye out. Unfortunately I think this cross is usually accidental. I deffinately would want a lot of terrier blood though, I wouldn't want anything too sighthoundy, though i can see the advantage of it.

seen a terrier(?) x whippet that caught plenty mooching about near his house and on his walks(was just a pet).

they seem too come more sighthoundy than you'd expect, going off pics of some pat x bwra whips and some Middleton Lakeland x greys

That’d be an interesting way to go, collie terrier base. But I’m really set on just terrier. Had a collie grey Wheaton grey before and frankly there wasn’t much I liked about her! LOL

I think a rough coated whirrier from very good fell blood is my best bet. And even 3/4 sighthound would be too much for my taste as well. Better to a grey but hardly even heard one bred that way never mind find one.
