Lol me too.

The one that gets my back up are self anointed 'gurus' who start up these 'trade associations' which are really only about self promotion at the expense of others in the form of subscriptions.

Or am I being cynical?

Ive about gave up on reading mole trapping articles, it all seems so easy half the time. If you can go to four or five houses a day, have a cup of tea and a natter while you set half a dozen traps bef

Get your selfs into a factory if catching moles is such a miserable existence, it's only a few f***ing moles.

Steady away there’s worse jobs to do,

Catching moles is a piece of piss. Catching enough day in day out year after year and making it pay isn't. So it's easier to sell books, traps, courses and associations.

His book was crap, if you couldn't catch a mole before you wouldn't be able to after. I think it didn't even cover the basics.

At one time the mole catching job got silly with all the newspaper articles and ten Bob millionaires. Fair play to those that played the game but some of em actually believed it.

"Catching moles is a piece of piss" ?, well that depends really ?,........"Catching enough day in day out year after year and making it pay isnt. So its easier to sell books, traps, courses and associations." ?   yes, you certainly have a point there, but i dont believe it necessarily applies to all concerned ?,......."His book was crap, if you couldnt catch a mole before you wouldnt be able to after. i think it didnt even cover the basics. "     Well, what book you talking about here ? , & im afraid your statement here probably isnt valid , or indeed  accurate ? :)    "At one time the mole catching job got silly with all the newspaper articles and ten Bob millionaires. Very well put.

You're right. The real art in molecatching is making a viable business out of it.

"very well put" ?,....well, not all of it ?   lol   & " The real art in molecatching is making a viable business out of it " ? yes, your right,... at the end of the day.

Did any of you see another article in 'Pest Magazine' , is it ? (not long ago) this "specialist" ? goes quite in depth on the subject. Maybe somebody can put it up ? (since I'm a bit 'thick' trying to do that sort of thing ? ? & just as well, or I would have put the 'Nicholls' piece up, for Mr Wasp ! lol)

Ive about gave up on reading mole trapping articles, it all seems so easy half the time. If you can go to four or five houses a day, have a cup of tea and a natter while you set half a dozen traps before going to your next garden and make £500 a week without breaking a sweat good luck to you but i cant do it. A few gardens a week but vast majority is grafting like fooook on farmland where its freezing cold and your as sick as foook walking miles a day. As for going back to check traps the day after its impossible half the time, just now I started a farm before the snow came and had to leave 200 traps under snow for a full week, couldnt do anything else. Too many can catch but dont want to cos its bloody hard graft so thy paint a rosy picture and try selling themselves as mole trapping legends and try making money the easy way bigging themselves up.

Its when you have to go out carrying an injury: sprains, ligaments, joints, knees, ankles.

Hobbling down some garden, trying to be polite as the customer asks if moles can climb trees as well, and you're in a cold sweat because every step is frigging agony...

Then the best job on earth can be hell on earth.

(And I count mole catching as being up there with the best... On a good day!)

I'm trying to start out, no complaints so far, I'm doing well enough, my only complaint is it's just another job that I end up covered in shit, red clay and piss wet through most days. My next move will be a quad, cover an average farm in a day and take the weight off my poor old spine.

Its Interesting you should mention " a quad" ?,.. cause this is the first time ive considered the possibilty of acquiring one (since i started over 20 odd year ago) Ive really felt the old wear & tear on the body more in recent times, you see,..but the problem is id really need to be able to justify the utility of it ?, and im not confident i really can , in these parts ? ,......this is also compounded by the fact that another mole catcher now operates (with quad) in my area, (last 3 or 4 year) and charges LESS than i would need to !! :pardon:

I use my quad this year, backs bolloxed, and the fields are wet and hard walking, I tend to lay my traps from the quad, then check on foot, they are good tools but I must admit, I never used to rely on the quad it’s only the last year or so,

That's exactly what I want mine for, it's hard work humping dozens of traps around, even worse in the rain and heavy ground. I'm carrying a spine injury or two, I'm in bits after a day settings traps, I'm just lookingfor easier options.
