The benefits outweigh the risks. But the AAP stops at recommending universal circumcision.

Stop the spread of disease (and unsightliness).  Have your children vaccinated and circumcised!

Don't think there's enough in it, either way, to be honest. Whereas vaccination is a very heavily weighted pro!

A $150 surgery is a pretty good money maker though. Ten a week and that Mercedes will be paid off in no time.

I'd love to know who started it and why? Unless they wanted to stop them smelling like those green packets of cheese and onion hula hoops. Had to be for hygiene reasons when soap was scarce.

It's been a religious ritual for a long time but the decline in the UK at least was when the NHS was started and doctors couldn't charge for the procedure any more. In some cases, it's a medical necessity but when a doc charges $150 a cut stateside you can see why they carry on with it. It's a good earner and in most cases, tradition seems to be the only reason.
