Reloading 22 hornet

Recommended Posts

I'm coming to the end of my factory PPU SP ammo for the hornet so I'm going to start reloading.

I've decided to start with 35gr v-max, the old PPU cases and Lil'gun powder.

Half of the stuff I've read on the subject says crimping is a must. The other half says it's not necessary. I was going to buy a Lee Collet die set. Is it worth getting a crimp die too? :hmm:

Are you not tempted with the 40gr vmax walshie, great accuracy with lil gun and ppu brass... crimping them also tightens up the groups..

I don't really know what weight to start with. All I know is my mate is using 35gr and it smashes Charlie so figured I'd start there.  I might get a box of each.

Walshie I was using 35gr max and winchester brass with either H110 12.3gr or lil gun 12.9gr, nice load and accurate, dropped plenty of foxes but did have a few run on 30yds and drop. The 40gr buck the wind better and hit harder, although I have to single load them using a shot sled as mine have a long COL, but very tight groups.

Do yours fit your mag?

No, single sled. Loaded to a COAL of, 1.900. " Amazing little round though. I've dropped rabbits out to 350 yards with the 40gr V-Max reloads. Great for fox out to 200 yards or so, too.

The Hornet is probably my favourite calibre.
