Just enjoying the dog

Just walk around with the ferrets this morning just enjoying our walk and the dog was a pleasure. He did every thing to perfection keeping in nice range checking on me where I was. Big forestry of young tree's so at times on my knees looking up the rows to catch a glimpse as he crossed over checking out bits of scent.

There was scent about but in such a big block biit of a needle in a hay stack job

I liked the way at one point he heard a magpie chatter and went off to check if charlie was sneaking about he seems to have sussed that one out.

I keep showing him this grid because one day he will try and take it full tilt when a rabbit pops up

Back to the car then and bagged up some manure for the plot

Just one word put him in a wait  and he didn't budge until I was ready to go. Not daft these bull crosses lol though having a splash of collie helps I guess

 

Back home then and popped a pheasant curry in  the slow cooker

Nice one Terry, as much as I like the adrenaline fuelled walks the relaxing "normal " type of dog walk are a pleasure. If far and few between

Had a nice walk out this morning myself and a mate after having a full english.

I can let the dogs loose up here and watch them do there thing.

It keeps them quiet til tonight.

Nice going mate im always scared to run the dogs in woodland after the last bitch hit a sapling and came back all green down one shoulder it could of been a lot worse

Yes that is very true. He is an exciting dog to work with no half measures and only one speed. I did hope he was starting to respect the ground we have to work but he really is not lol. If there is some thing about he will work the ground quickly at full tilt in case it is on the move. Once his happy it is not then it is nose down and figure it out. But it is that attitude that catches stuff compared to a more laid back type I guess. He flushed a rabbit out the reeds this morning 

then covered the surrounding area in about 30 seconds before getting his snout down and tracking it across a couple of fields before eventually losing it but not with out a dam good search first. Which is perfect when you only have the odd rabbit to go at

 

 

 

reluctantly gave up in the end lol

then home for a cuppa and rub mud all over the front room

Nice pictures mate, it never ceases to amaze me when my lad takes off on something the amount land that's covered in seconds often difficult terrain to cover as well.

I find a lot of pleasure in watching them work whether they catch or not.

I guess a really experienced lurcherman ( which I'm not) can read a dog like a book. If that's the case then I  think i might suffer from  dog dyslexia. Lol

Every season whether there's a lot of game about or not is always an enjoyable (mostly) learning experience.
