I believe the pup is out of a Maldini  ( I think that,s the correct spelling )racing bred greyhound bitch and the sire is a German Purebred Deerhound, the pup is only four weeks old so another month and i will collect him. They can,t be that bad as one of the litter is going out to Kansas as a Coyote dog, the guy over there always buys from Dave Platts and i have seen a video of them working them over in Kansas, do the job well.

a chap we used to course with before the ban had a first cross bitch from an out cross mateing by a pure breeder, she was a fast and big strong good looking bitch but sadly had the heart of a mouse, used to jack all the time. and I saw loads run in the 70s decent enough for what they were but their days were numbered, they could not compete with saluki crosses and most of the early saluki crosses were saluki lurchers, not saluki greyhounds as the lads that had the chance used salukis over there existing bitches, I kept and bred this type since the late 60s none better, these early coursing dogs have developed in to the line bred coursing dogs of today. good luck with the pup find his strengths  and weaknesses and work to them and be happy.

 It is one of DPs pups, I have just read the past threads on the Deer/Greys ( all 14 pages ) some conflicting views but very interesting. I have just been given permission on a thousand acres of  mixed land and would have loved my pure Deerhound to have worked it, I would not have another pure bred Deerhound as i could not be sure it is not affected by the many problems they seem to suffer from which i believe to be down to the show brigade, they really do need to outcross before it,s too late.  i have to say though he had tremendous prey drive and at 33" tts could fairly motor when asked to and did bring things down quite easily. I am not looking for an out and out killing machine that gives good numbers but, something that will do for me when i want it to. It will be working alongside my other dogs so it will have to be biddable and know it,s place in the pack.

I will put some pictures up of the pup  when it arrives and keep you up to speed on it,s development .

Are you getting pup from dave or Joe, I looked at getting a bitch pup. They are nice pups and you should do well mate,, you only get out what you put in, yes folk call him puppy farmer like they do with hancock, brummel but how many same folk run dogs from those they slag. And just look on any free add loads of pups for sale "all working bred" so adds say. Most are bred by folk on here.... I wish you all the best,,

Do you know anything  about the dog's pedigree ?  I checked out the bitch, there's a lot of Maldini data. They seem to have a lot of the 'Droopy's' prefix in them.

Any link to the vid? Any dog that can stop one (as opposed to running along behind it) is something special in my opinion.
