If you send a dog into every bit of cover a one hour walk would take three hours and for what to find out there is nothing in their not for me mate I’ll let the dogs decide if there’s anything in their atb BB

:laugh:I don't ever send my dogs into cover,...it is always their call...

Sometimes a rabbit will be sitting up, safe and sound, just in the mouth of a burrow.

A keen dog will not know this until he breaks the bush, mine often flash into cover, only to just miss the rabbit as it gets to ground.

As has been stated, it is an important attribute of a ConeyCatcher...

Handy if your dog puts it to ground and marks the place or catches?,  but as troyboy said, I'd find the hunt a waste when something can be gone out of the place and the dog is still inside and missed opportunity .  Suppose thats the law of the jungle lol

My little pup I got runs through the cover after my spaniels untill it' to much then he just waits outside for them to come out but I'm hoping to work them with my lurcher once he's working. My old bull  x used to nail it into cover I didn' like it as he'd go in full speed but you never know what's in there. Every dog has a job for me my spaniels are for cover and beating and the lurcher for out in the open

I sent that pup in because she marking the bush as you can see from the video ... when she came out and I looked at it she agent backnin and was marking a decent sized warren which I didn't know was there ... so thanks to the pup going in the cover that's a nice warren that I will longnet and get a few rabbits out of ... for working deep cover properly I've got a cocker ... my lurchers don't need to be out and out bushers they don't need to work with a gun like a spaniel and they don't need to retrieve from water like a Labrador ... but they do need to be able to do a bit of it all ........

The Working Lurcher truly is,... a 'Jack of all Trades, Master of None"

If you kept a different breed of dog for every eventuality,..you would need a kennel full of jukels..

I'll settle for less than perfection,...I only ask,..." just give it a try Shep", that'll do nicely...
