I kept a couple of wild boar x pigs this year, they would be some test for a dog.

The sire of my pigs was a gigantic animal with a massive set of hooks......that f****r would kill you stone dead in a heartbeat.

Very tough creatures pigs.

I'd be interested to know the rules. If it retains it's hunting heritage I'd imagine the dog just has to physically restrain the boar in as short a time as possible, at which point the dog would be broken off and the trial over.

 

BGD, it reminded me of the yank hog dog trials too. Them Wild Boar make the yank hogs look tame in comparison though imo.

I imagine it's timed trials or possibly some kind of points system based on how the dog works the boar? Be very interesting to get a more in depth look at the way things are done and how they breed the dogs, it looks like they've developed their own crossbred bull type for the hog pits.

They do generally appear a heavier build than the sort of hunting dogs seen in Aus etc. Some look a bit like Dogo's though. They don't necessarily strike me as being heavier than a typical catch dog type, such as what the yanks may use.

 

If there's money in it though they'll be breeding for the sport and not the field so I'm sure you are right. Much like how breed lines have diverged in many other hunting sports when some form of trial or competition sport has been developed.

Those bull Arabs they use in Oz are a mish mash of different stuff.

I imagine they use any powerful dog they have access to that will fire into a boar, definitely some that just look like catchweight APBT and dogos but some interesting looking crosses too. As more money and interest comes into the sport the breeding will just get more and more specialised though until the point where they have their own hog fighting "type"

 

Won't be long until an Indonesian Hog Fighting Dog will be the next must have accessory for any self respecting scumbag over here!

Pit fighting of any kind wouldn't really be my cup of tea although I don't condem it........I think it's still an important part of breeding game dogs so I wouldn't want it banned.

If you found that interesting mate, grab a look at any of the "Hogs, dogs and quads" DVDs......that's more what we would call hunting and by f**k do they give them dogs some graft.

May not be everyone's cup of tea but I think they are good.

That's a good attitude to have. Those who own decent bull greyhounds are due to decent bulls been bred

Baiting is Baiting and is as far removed from hunting imo. If you want to test a dog then do it on the wild animal

just make sure your fences dont blow down and they escape and populate the Irish countryside.......we wouldnt want that now ............would we? .......would we?
