ChrisJones 7,973
Looks like they're trying to equate hunting and pest control with this kind of behaviour. One makes national news though... go figure...
Welsh_red 4,302
I've trapped and shot squirells plenty. Point blank range in the head , always do a second pellet just incase and they sometimes squirm. It's the muscles spasming I think . My 2 kids help me trap , their 5 & 7 and they set their own traps . Neither of them laugh and giggle when they see the squirell die . I love having my kids with me doing it showing enthusiasm for something I enjoy . My little girl enjoys it most . Shes helping daddy out . It's great bonding . I don't care if she falls out of bring interested but right now it's great having the kids experiencing the country with me This smile isn't the smile of bloodlust enforced on her by her father . If she didn't actively hassle me to come trapping I wouldn't take her . That's the smile of a little girl who is happy to be copying her father helping out a farmer by getting rid of greys. She didn't smile or cheer she it was killed . She calmly and methodically opened the trap and I got squirell out . She then rebaited and reset the trap and went on through the woods to check the rest with me and her brother . That squirell was then carried through 3 fields by her resisting the temptation to run around playing games with her brother until we got to the car and it came home with us and she fed it to our ferret . Sickens me that they try to cast aspersions without ever knowing the fact . Plenty people read the paper and if that picture was on Facebook people round here would slag me off for it and shed have things said about her aswell. ChrisJones 7,973
If you came out with a wheelbarrow full of shot rats you'd have the mayor shaking your hand and a full-page spread about bubonic plague...
