Get them in now mate. Worry not about frost and snow. They are very hardy things. Ideally you want the shoots to be just clear of the surface before the hard frosts. When you think about it, they are rhe same family as onions and leeks which handle the cold weather with no problem. Just as an aside, if you are bothered at all, get some straw and cover with a couple inches and sling a net over to stop blwing away a. I've noticed a local farmer doing exactly this with over wintering carrots. Jok.

Got 3 large garlic and two bags of onion sets for a tenner at the range....plus 3 bags of tulip bulbs for a tenner....cashier put em all through and only charged me a tenner for the 6 bags! Got 15 garlic cloves in and 30 onions....still got 1 garlic and loads of onions left! Walked round the allotments trying to give em away
