Anyone on here gather them regularly?

Two of the many trees I walk by are, this year, producing usable nuts.

I collected pocketful this morning and am thinking, having looked on few websites, score, boil, peel, freeze, in small batches.

The first six are 5 bleurgh and 1 nice.

Could do with a failsafe method.

When I lived in the old horse with open fire, used to get them out the cases prick them couple times apart from one then place them on the fire on a old baking tin sheet ,when the unpricked one exploded then they were done.

That's a coincidence: I found a tree with decent sized chestnuts while walking the kelpies today and was going to have a look on bing after a quick look on here to see how best to cook them (as I wasn't sure whether to lay them on a shovel on the fire or wrap them in tin foil)...but now I know.

Thanks FODR!
