Got a jill 2months ago,my daughter picked her up as was 200km from me.For 2 days wouldn't come out of the nest box.After 2 months only comes out at feeding time or when I take her out to exercise.If you walk near the cage she flys back to bed.Have not worked her yet due to this behaviour.Never seen a shy ferret in 40years with them.Do you think she'll get better, as is pretty useless this way.She is in no way savage.

You need to get handling her a lot more than you have been mate or else your going to waiting outside a rabbit hole for a long time

I've got one here, not shy as you describe but on the very few occasions I've taken her out she drives me mad by shooting off back down the holes as soon as you try to pick her up.

Absolutely useless for rabbiting I guess I'm a mug for keeping her for the last 5 years or so but she will sit in my grandaughters arms for ages without a bother so shes been useful in other ways I suppose.

My two jill kits when let loose won't come to me they always seem to be busy running around. They do come and wait at the hutch door tho only because I think they want to be let out.

only my opinion but may be make up some small collars and keep taking for a walks on a lead in wide open spaces(middle of a field etc) , nowhere to hide. Worth a try.

Iv a poley jill kit here She was doing the same, not coming out the nest box at all. First I thought the ramp was too steep in the run so I lowered the nest box, she was still skulking and crying all the time. Just had to keep lifting her out and get her involved with the rest of the kits and the dogs. She was freezing with fright when she was lifted and I had a few moments of ear piercing screams out her. Wee thing was proper terrified. Seems ok now but is still the most timid of the bunch of kits. She comes straight out when I squeak to them now and shes straight into the hand.

Don't know if I should breed her with one of my good hobs but worried the kits might inherit her shy nature.

That will be because they know if they see you heading towards them that means it's time to go back inside and the fun ends, if you can spend more time blending into the back ground and get them out as much as possible they get used to their surrounds and you become the fascination and they will start coming up to you.

Mine were the same ??
