Falconry Experience Needed In Northants

Thanks for that offer mate, I know what you mean about folk who have all the kit but not the craft to catch, seen folk with half a dozen well bred whippets but they never get the chance to hunt and at the end of day the only way to learn is to get out and get on with it.

Seen plenty of them over the years, Robinhood falconers we used to call them. All the kit but can't fly the bird as she's too fat, only brought her along for the manning!

Without a doubt the best falconers in the field are those that were involved in other fieldsports before they got involved with the birds.

I could not agree more, you cannot teach 20 years of ferreting experience, or bushing for quarry in a couple of days course, lots of sports attract the same sort of characters (all the gear no idea types) and falconry is no different, as said lads that have come from a ferreting/running dog background already have a vast store of knowledge to draw upon, and generally soon pick the bird bit up quickly, (come to think about it, thats exactly what I did) I am in south Yorks mate, you are welcome to come up and have a day out this season, or I will come down to you, as its always nice to have a change of scenery, you have the right attitude to do well at the sport mate.

I've found the people with hawks/falcons etc with a background in ferreting/coursing/shooting hunting, in general, have much more skills with getting results out of their birds than the chaps with all the gear and no idea etc, which is quite a lot of the falconers I've seen over the last few years..they have ten grands worth of birds and equipment and all the posh clothes / 4x4s and when they actually get down to the hunting bit..they have no idea ! they have to buy a trained dog and get someone else to do the hunting bit for them..

If you can offer some land with game on...they should be paying you my friend for the privilege. Then when you meet a decent fella you'll be away.

The type that just have a fixation for Birds of Prey after watching a few dreary displays..........& decide they must have that bird on their fist!
