Many people have whippets or lurchers taking feather any pitchers of them

Never had a dog to take feather would love one mind you how would you go about training it or dose it come natural

Mines all ways took them in cover..On the very odd time took just as here taking off..No training..

My boy is alright with feather caught a few pheasant pigeon and goose

And retreve a duck from water.

 

 

All quarry was taken in the day time and on permission in season exepet the hen pheasnt dog got that when i was striming the garden hen jump out of the bambles and got grabd her and it was just dark when the misses got home to take the pic.

 

No training was done. He sees it ,he wants it.

My beddy x greyhound caught a pheasant on a country lane this time last year near a shoot. I recon the gamekeeper had a similar dog and the birds didn’t think it was a threat. The dog just ran up to the bird and pretty much snaffled it. Young farmed pheasants are ridiculously stupid creatures. Dog now stalks any bird which isn’t ideal.

Get them carrying and fetching feather young make it a game for them and chances are they'll take birds when there older.

Some dogs take feather some dont. My current lurcher won't touch feather unless on the lamp.

 

My old dog used to take feather for fun always bring pheasants, partridge and pigeon back.

Mine caught a brent goose on a estuary while out a walk once. Dont think she liked the feel of it in her mouth as she let go of it and held it down with her paws. She doesnt show much interest feather.

Mine has got taking Pheasants against wire fences and out of hedgerow bottoms down to a fine art. Retrieves em (almost to hand ) too.

Whippets are so lightning quick and mentally alert,.they will catch pheasant for fun.

 

Facts are, they are a real fecking liability where game birds and suchlike are lying up in the brash....

 

I've had some tykes that needed being put on a leader,...before they got me hung out to dry...

Anything bigger than a pheasant is to big for a shivery whippet and will just fly off with the skinny fukcers still attached .......
