Pre Feeding

Recommended Posts

I've been fishing a resevoir on the feeder. It holds massive shoals of perch but I'm getting some nice bream and roach. Problem is the perch are nailing the bait as soon as it hits bottom....so I'm thinking about pre baiting with a cereal and particle groundbait and maybe fishing caster on the hook..

Is this good idea and what would be a good cheap bait to pre bait with? Do bream like hemp? I went to the fishing shop to buy some groundbait but it's going to cost me a fortune to keep buying buckets full!

Bag of vitalin original or sack French maize vitalin will need a soak till soft you could add a flavour maybe.

Maize needs a 48 hour presoak then boil till soft and moist all the way through.

Soak maize for 24hrs boil for 30 mins, the same goes for hemp as well, another cheap alternative to hemp is red band pigeon conditioner, mix with either vitalin or a cheap fish meal ground bait with either maize or sweet corn as a hook bait and you're on to a winner ?

....so just boil maize, crush and add a flavour? Or mix with ground bait etc?

For roach and bream?

Hemp?

Be sure to presoak the maize before boiling most important or it will swell in fishes gut.

Bream love sweet butterscotch, peanut butter flavourings work well buy food flavourings from nett much cheaper than tackle shop

Artificial corn on your hook

Up to you but a builders bucket thrown in every other night for a week then give it a go.

Good luck

Cheers lads.

What's vitalin?

It's a dog food, you basically soak it for a few hours or you can boil water from the lake your fishing and pour over the boiling water and leave for half an hour, then add your freebies i.e. Hemp, corn or maize, I use the method feeder to get it out while fishing, its forms a nice tight ball meaning the fish has to really attack it to get it off, I advise you sit on your hands if you use this method lol as the tip will be going crazy until you get a proper take, if you have a ground bait catty you can get a decent bed out when pre baiting in no time

I found 4 old bags of ground bait in the shed so I mixed with sweet corn, hemp and casters. I've thrown all that in this afternoon. Going to bait tomorrow and Wednesday with vitalin hemp and corn.... hitting it Thursday

Pre baiting paid off ??

Brilliant ? By the looks of that bag there should be some right slabs in there, I'd be tempted to add some boilies halved when pre baiting and fish a 10-15 mm on a hair rig to see if I could winkle a couple of the specimens out, good luck and keep us posted
