These were made with small diameter wire for mink. Fenn's description just reminded me of them.

Rabbit the fox was eating to the side of fox

Hello All, I am new to snaring rabbits, i have been using the woodga snares i bought from fourteen acre. When checking my snares this morning two of them were broken, the wire was broke

Fact of life everywhere .You can't expect to provide a free meal with no takers .When a fox is on your line the only remedy is to to catch it and hope another dosnt find you before you get a few rabbits .Been going on for centuries mate.

Extract from Glenn's book

When a fox takes rabbits it either leaves the head,or the rabbit as a longer then normal neck where the fox as pulled it or the snare as gone completely...the fox pulling at the rabbit pulls the rabbit snare peg out and takes the lot.

Looking at the clean cut on the snares I'd say fox caught round foot and bit through wire.

Either way if you want to carry on rabbit snaring you will need to sort the fox out,it knows your snare line is there and will visit every night.

Me and woodga snared a fence line a few years ago,a fox had worked up the line taking a few, leaving us just the head, other rabbits had just been killed with a bite,as we came round a corner the fox was lying down eating a rabbit in the fence,it got up and tried to go through the fence only to get get caught in a rabbit snare, the shotgun stopped his theiving ways ?

Make some up out of 1.5mm 7x7 wire .rabbit will not snap those also if you have a fox in them then he will be sitting waiting for you also .Gave up on the brass wires myself and now only use 1.5mm or 1mm wire . Thankfully the brass wire is a thing of the past for me lol . All i need now is some rabbits to populate wales :whistling:

How uch do they work out as mate, where ye get em from?

I make all my wires myself .i get the wire from Handy straps for the ferrules i use 2mm nuts and 3mm .As for the lock i use a bike chain link .. as per cost per wire i couldn't tell you never gave it a thought lol but i tell you i find them much better than the brass because you can load them to be very quick as with fox snares . I get great enjoyment of catching with stuff i make myself rather than buying off others. If it all goes wrong then you have no one to blame but yourself :wallbash:
