I know it's good to read those old books and want to try things....we have all done it as kids..but..there is no point trying to catch trout on night lines. What happens when you return in the morning

Used to put a line across the beach bury a house brick with a line on it stretch it across the beach and bury another house brick on the other end over night. While staying in chalets on the cliff at

If your setting lines on the beach just make sure you are the first one there when the tide goes out! There people out walking the dogs at all times of day and night and some greedy dogs!

Not just on set lines! I hooked a greedy patterdale through the nostril when I was beachcasting for flatties on the Moray firth near Nairn.....it was trying to scoff my bait.....you should have seen the three of us trying to get the hook out of its beak.....it was worse than hooking the tern with a toby.....

I hooked a seal once that learnt to ambush me as I reeled fish in. It would see me setup from bloody miles away then suddenly appear just in front of me and wait. It was a race to beach the fish before it intercepted and one time I failed. That put a bend in me rod

I always do ant I always check the next tide and any wind direction as you know can play its part as well depinding on direction and gulls can be more of a pain with sliver fish than dog walkers not so much with flatties as they bury themselves Edited by blackmaggie
