Spring Beach Casting Worthwhile?

Hi all

 

Just a quick question, relatively new to beachcasting. I hear plenty about cod in winter and bass in summer but what's about at this time of year?? I'm in east anglia so not particularly lucky with my location but is it worthwhile at this time of year? And if so what should I be targeting? Or should I just wait for the bass?

Always worth a throw, Im in a different direction from you but here at this time of year we get plaice, thornback rays, gurnard etc - Always something about

I've no idea if you get Plaice up there, but thats what we are targeting at the moment. But also as Fat Ferret said Thornbacks, Flounders come back in but they are spent at the moment. Few early Mackerel and school Bass about, waiting on big Mullet and Bass about the first big tide in June for us. Had a few small Plaice but its mainly feeding the Spider Crabs. Lol

The Mullet are great sport - I caught a few on the fly a few years back

 

 

 

Try free line Sprat fillet they love them, stitch the fillet up the trace then put two finger on the trace the higher side and pull down to ball on the hook, unless you are up a river in brackish water then bread flake.

I take it you fish on the Suffolk coast rather than the Norfolk coast and if so places like Aldeburgh, Sizewell, Thorpeness and Southwold will all produce dabs and whiting at this time of the year. It is likely to still have some cod on the spring run in the area and if that is what you want, the first two above are the best in my experience.

Dunwich also produces some cracking fishing near the boats or to the left of the boats.

 

I live in North Lincolnshire but visit Suffolk normally 3 or 4 times a year staying at High Lodge near Darsham and have enjoyed many sea fishing sessions on that area of the coast.

Bait wise, contact Saxmundam Angling Centre who will advise on where is fishing and the best bait and tides for that area.

 

As it gets warmer and you are chasing the bass, don't just cast as far as you can because I have caught far far more within 20mts on a carp rod with a single hook and ragworm at Sizewell beach.

Good advice lads...

Plaice are in now, should be fattening up after spawning, mackerel are starting to show so summer is on its way..

Also had a nice Gilt head 3 weeks ago in the estuary, bit of an early season surprise..
