Hi guys,
My two new hens are hiding in the coop (within a run). They venture out to eat and straight back in. Have had them almost one week and they are point of lay.
I was thinking of locking them out of the coop for a couple of hours to get them used to outside. Is this ok or not advisable? Our sheepdog often lurks outside which probably doesn't help.

Locking them out will only stress them more.

Sounds like they're making strange with the dog. If the dog is not worrying them through the wire then they should get used to the dog.

Mate. Do not worry yourself. Wait till you get bigger numbers. Just do the right thing with fresh water and feed and throw in some green material, dandelions, chickweed, cabbage or indeed any good greens. Them ladies will be out in a jiffy. ATB? Jok.

Them shed reared pol hens need a while to learn how to be hens scratting around etc i wouldn't worry about them being shy just let them settle in and don't let the dog harass them.
